Gilbert is a pretty good RT. More concerning about Mike Adams.

Very great signing for us. I know winning Free Agency doesn't mean winning when the regular season comes, but this is great. We got Bradford a great weapon in Cook, now we added a top LT.

Why bother teaching Long a new position for only one years of work? He didn`t come to St. Louis to be a RT. I think Saffold will be traded for a later round pick so we wont have to worry about it.

Honestly, I don't see either happening...

1. Don't think they're gonna move Long off LT. That's what they brought him here to be and seem committed to it for the future...

2. Don't see us giving up Saffold for a late round pick. I see them keeping him at RT for 2013 and drafting a mid round RT in the draft to groom for a year behind Saffold, before becoming the replacement in 2014...

I dont imagine Fisher would have checked in with Saffold regarding their pursuit of Long if they didnt plan on keeping him around for this year. Sounds like he is going to be using him somewhere along the line, so either at one of the guards or RT.

I dont see it working out great at any of those spots in a Power Blocking Scheme, but he cant be worse than Richardson at RT, and could likely be just as good as Rob Turner at LG. Its likely a one year thing, and then they move on from him. but you have to look at it like this, we get his services as a good lineman for this year, and could also recoup a solid compensatory pick if he goes and signs for big LT money next offseason.

I wouldnt think anything less than a 3rd is worth trading him for, and other teams likely wont give that seeing as he would be a UFA next year.

Not sure how much Jake's contract is for this season yet, but I wonder how this affects Harvey? Even if we restructured JL's contract, I could see Dahl getting the ax to make room for some other depth signings.

I do not understand why anyone would want to trade Saffold for a later round pick? So we finally get two good tackles and we move one?

No Saffold is going to be our RT for this year and hopefully the future.

Obviously, if Jake Long is over his injuries and returns to his pre-injury form then we have a total bargain (insofar as anyone earning millions for shoving people around can be termed a "bargain") at the reported wages.

However, the long-term repercussions of moving Saffold to the right may hurt this franchise for years IF Jake doesn't rediscover his old form. Not only will we have spent a lot of money on Long, we'd have to get a new LT if Saffold leaves in free agency next year.

I see where your coming from, BUT Saffold hasn't been te healthiest of players either, you know?

In case there was ANY doubt, here's Jeff Fisher on Jake Long: "Hes gonna line up and be our left tackle."
