I swear Kubiak can't possibly be this dumb right? Rolling Eyes

Could be, but I thought the same thing last year and we ended up picking up our first WR in round 3. Laughing

True, but last year we also had Walter on the roster. So right now we have Dre, Posey, Martin, Jean and Maehel as our only wr's on the roster and Posey will probably miss the whole year In my estimations. We HAVE to go WR either 1st or 2nd round.

Let's see what HAS Worked:
Andre Johnson - 1st round 2003

Let's see what sort of worked for a while:
Kevin Walter - RFA with 7th round comp 2006

Let's see what hasn't worked:
Over the hill has-been FA's (Mason, Bryant Johnson, Moulds)
Never-was vets FA's (Andre Davis, Corey Bradford, Glenn Martinez)
UDFAs that can't run (Jean, Maehl, Tolliver)
UDFAs that can't catch (Armstrong, Darling, Jenkins)
7th round mascot - David Anderson
7th round position change project - Dorin Dickerson
6th round Speedy Returner who can't catch - Trindon Holliday
4th round Speedy Returner who can't catch - Jerome Mathis
4th round slot receiver who can't run or catch - Keshawn Martin
3rd Round big school project w/character risk - DeVier Posey
3rd Round small school project w/character risk - Jacoby Jones
2nd Round big school project who can't run -Jabar Gaffney

Well, that leads me to the only logical choice of our answers being:
1) Another 1st rounder
2) A Free Agent still ascending (like Walter) or in his prime.
3) 5th rounders (but that's where Devier Posey should have gone so I'll cross that one out for us)

Although Kubiak may see this list and think we haven't tried:
2nd round small school project who can't catch
4th-6th rounders that can't run
FA has-been or never-was projects with character risks

Aw hell, just draft 3 more TE's and get it over with Gary and explain how you saw magic in that one great quarter Lestar Jean had in 1 preseason game 2 years ago...

I think you're a little premature in saying Martin and Posey are busts. I expect Martin to be a pretty productive receiver in the slot for us this season, and I expect Posey to help fill the gaping hole that Andre Johnson will leave us with one day. I think Kubiak's just saying that whoever we pick will have to compete their way onto the field, obviously..

I see a lot of value in rounds 2-4 at WR. I'm sure we'll pick one or two and go to work with the guys we have. To me, finding a 3rd TE is almost as important.

Anyone know whatever happened to that guy? Did he go to Canada or working at Burger King?

I havn't given Swope a second thought, since the release of Walter, but the more and more I think about it, if we could get him in the 2nd I think we pull the trigger.
