Well, I'm as confused as anybody, regarding what we'll do with our 1st-rounder. On the one hand, if G. Smith is there at our pick, we probably take him, but no WAY would I trade up for him. Assuming he's gone, though, what might our best options be?
I'm going to throw some names out there, that are likely to be on the board, that would help our team, immediately. Let's pretend we'll go after a QB in the 2nd round, or trade back up into the later part of the 1st. It might not even BE pretend, though; good chance it works out EXACTLY like this.
So, without further ado...

#1. Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina.
Here's a replacement for Levitre, for less money, and with a higher upside. Some might argue for Warmack, but I think Cooper does some things better, especially move in space.

#2. Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame.
Chandler is coming off a serious knee injury, and Lee Smith is basically just a blocker. Eifert is the consensus #1 TE in this class, and is a mismatch for most linebackers.

#3. Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma.
I really like this kid as a prospect. Drafting him to play left tackle would allow Cordy Glenn to take over Levitre's spot at left guard, where he could be dominant, or to right tackle.

Apologies to Warmack, Patterson, and Barkley; I just think that any of these three guys at #8 overall would represent better bang for the buck. Warmack is more of a right (power) guard, and we have Urbick there. Cooper would seem to fit better with a running back like Spiller. Patterson is raw, and seems like a risky pick, plus there are TONS of good WR prospects in rounds 2 and 3. I'd take Eifert in the 1st, a QB in the 2nd (OR 1st), and a WR in the 3rd before I'd take Patterson at #8. Barkley? I think he was a fine college quarterback, who just won't do that well in the Pros.

Of these, Rhodes is the only one who might not [inappropriate/removed] me off. It'd still be a reach, but I'd love what he'd bring to our secondary!

EDIT - Huh, didn't realize that was a banned word! Should have used "whiz"! Laughing

Okay. Elaborate on who YOU'D like to pick at #8, who has a decent chance of being there...?

With it looking like Geno will be gone by 8 I really think trade down needs to be looked at. I could seriously see a team that needs that last first rd OT in a Lane Johnson move up and grab him, or even is Fisher or Joekel fall that would be ideal. I still think there is good value at the back end of rd 1 and early into rd 2 to still get some impact guys.

I'm open to trading back and add additional 2nd plus if Geno is gone.
