Why are people not okay with this?

Fitzpatrick would be a much, much better backup than Hasselbeck.

everybody throws trashelbeck under the bus all year, yet now we want him to stick around? smdh

Hass's play has sucked but i just wanted Hass around for Locker. They seemed to be on the same page Locker seemed to learn alot from Hass especially at the line of scrimage which is key into learning the QB position but i guess the counter argument is by now Locker should know all that stuff it comes down to Locker making plays on the field but i just liked having Hass's mind around Locker

Jake hasn't shown he is durable enough to play a full season and should he sputter big time we need to have a vet waiting in the wings. I'm far from a Fitzpatrick fan but with Hass gone now, I wouldn't hate it. If he comes cheap enough, accepts the back-up role and understands its not a QB competition and plays with a chip on his shoulder when/if he gets a chance to play, sure why the heck not. Part of me thinks he might actually thrive in a run heavy, short passing system.

I did see that he met with the Bengals yesterday as well, chances seem pretty high he heads back there.

If I'm Fitz, I like my chances of unseating Locker a whole lot more than Dalton.

Seriously, it's like Rusty's just a forgotten man on this team. I'd honestly like to see him have a chance to compete for the backup spot instead of just giving it to some newcomer.

We'll carry three QBs into camp at least. He'll have a chance to win the #2 job. I'm not holding my breath though.

Yeah, we'll carry three QBs, but we shouldn't need to bring in a guy and pay him #2 money given we have Rusty. Rusty was supposed to become the #2 guy. Signing someone else to be the #2 would I think pretty much declare Rusty as a career practice squad guy. I think he's shown some promise in pre-season the past two years.

You won't sign a Fitzpatrick or Campbell or whoever then tell him to be the #3 behind Rusty.

If Fitz signs he will have in his contract that McCarthy cannot come within 5 yards of him after that hit he took in Buffalo during the 2011 season from McCarthy. Shocked Laughing

If Locker gets hurt and its up to Rusty it might as well be a lost season. No way in poop should we have him as our #2.

3. Kevin Kolb
4. Matt Leinart
5. Jamarcus Russell Laughing

Campbell is terrible. Awful.

I'd love us to take a look at Josh Johnson. The kid has the tools, is fast as can be, and is young. I've been hoping he'd get a chance somewhere for a few years now.

I like the signing. Gives us a good backup with starter experience.

To be honest, Derek, I'd rather have you than another run with Vince. Smile

I think there's a 95% chance that Rusty is just practice squad fodder and will never be better. Given that, you can't let the team go into the season with him as the #2.

And on the 5% chance that he's really good and just needs a chance to play, he's begin to show it in preseason. If he's that good, they would likely cut or trade Fitzpatrick before the season starts. Think Russell Wilson last year - Rusty needs to play so well that the coaches can't sit him anymore. That's how he earns the spot - not just by virtue of having potential as a draft pick a couple years back.
