Dudes, its snowing and like 10 degrees here, last year it was 70. What gives?
Green Bay Trades picks 26 and 88 to Miami for Picks 42, 54, and 139.
Round 2 A Matt Elam - SS - Florida - Coaching staff seems to like Burnett at SS but I really dislike MD Jennings. Elam is a very good open field tackler and a decent cover guy. He brings something big also, attitude. Elam lays the wood and really sets the tone and that could really bring this defense up a level.
Round 2 B Gavin Escobar - TE - San Diego State - Escobar is an underrated prospect this year IMO. He didn't run the best at the combine but plays faster than what he ran, a la Finley. Big strong hands and is a natural hands catcher, should be an excellent option for Rodgers in the pass game.
Round 2 C Kawann Short - DE - Purdue - Like Worthy last year, some DT/DE will fall in the draft and luckily for us Short falls in our lap. Short is a guy who can add some value in nickle for pass rush and should age will to take Pickett's role in a few years.
TRADE We send our 4th and the 5th from Miami for a late 3rd.
Round 3 Corey Lemonier - OLB - Auburn - Real solid depth to place behind Matthews, Lemonier has some real potential as a 3-4 OLB.
Round 4 [Comp] Brian Schwenke - C - Cal - Depth at Center is needed and Schwenke will hopefully push EDS for the starting gig in a year or two.
Round 5 Josh Boyce - WR - Texas Christian - Over looked in a deep WR class. Ran well, tested well at the combine and pruduced decent at TCU. Has some RAC ability and is a home run threat.
Round 6 Steve Williams - CB - Cal - Developemental CB prospect who ran fast. Has some INT's, never watched him at Cal. Taking a chance on a athlete.
Round 7 Cierre Wood - RB - Notre Dame - Thick RB who has good vision and can plant the foot and go. Good ZBS back. Has a sprinkle of Ryan Grant to his game, not a good blocker, can make some catches out of the backfield, can go down easy at times. He has some make you miss to his game for a thicker back. |

I could live with this. I really like Elam, would really like that pick there. Not the biggest short fan but I like the value where you have him picked. I do like the Escobar pick quite a bit too. I would actually like to go with a RB a little earlier then the 7th. _________________

Look at Alfred Morris, I bet not a ton of Redskins fans were pumped about that pick but he was great value for them. |

I don't like Elam, but I see the argument for him. If the staff is confident in him than I wouldn't be worried. Escobar, Short, Schwenke Heard that Boyce compares a lot to Cobb, is this true? I haven't seen any of him. Williams is the 2nd best Cal CB in this draft. Wood is meh. I don't think Lemonier will be there, but I view it as a push. Don't feel too strong either way on him. I'd be pretty happy overall. _________________

A few of Boyce's better plays. I think in a deep class this guy is going to be a real value pick. There is a long list of names and good WR's in this draft, somebody is bound to fall some. |

Team is one to look out for in 2013. _________________

Not the biggest Elam fan, but hey, if our staff feels confident in him, then I'll accept it.
Like Escobar, but you know Eifert could be there for us at #42 because the only other teams picking ahead of us at #42 that could've possibly pursued him (Bears, Giants, Falcons) already addressed TE in FA (Bears-Marty B, Giants-Brandon Myers, and Tony Gonzales signed on for one more year in Atlanta, so they could pass on him as well). If he's there for us at #42, he's way too good to let slip into someone else's hands.
I'd do backflips in the streets if Short fell to our 2nd pick at #57, but if not, then Sly Will might be there for us. He'd be an acceptable alternative if Short is gone by then.
Love Schwenke, too. He'd be a steal if he fell to us in the 4th.
Lemonier would be a nice rotational/depth guy for us in the 3rd.
All in all, nice draft, though like others who've posted before me, I'd prefer a RB be taken sooner than the 7th. Yes, I see your point about Alfred Morris being a late round gem, but just how often do RBs that are taken that late pan out? Plus, TT's track record of drafting RBs isn't exactly stellar, so we almost have to taken one in the earlier rounds to have a chance of hitting on said pick. Alex Green I'll give the benefit of the doubt because it was his first full year in pads, but he wasn't too impressive this year. |

I'm really big on Boyce. I think this guy could be a reliable guy for us. Not a superstar per se, but a solid 2/3.
The rest of this mock looks pretty good though I'm not so sure about Lemonier. |

But it really doesn't work like that. Maybe he will be there at 42, I dont know but a team like SF who has a bunch of picks and a quite a few high picks might want another weapon for Kaepernick. Could you imagine Vernon Davis and Tyler Eifert as a 1-2 TE punch A lot of teams use a form of BPA/BVA and not drafting off of need. |

They're going to have to trade up past Pittsburgh in the 1st on that one. Pittsburgh needs a TE now that Miller's having injury problems. They really don't have anyone reliable behind him... |

What if Star Lotulelei has a medical green from Pitt but somehow falls to them? You really think they have Eifert above Lotulelei? I would doubt it. |
