Really didn't see a move like this coming at all. John is one of the best in the game. We are shaping up as one of those teams thats going to be remembered throughout NFL history. I can see us on one of those NFL Network top 10's in a decade or two _________________

I kind of wish we locked him up for longer. He's been a 10 sack guy and he's only 26. I know the reason why we didn't but I'm a big Avril fan, especially in this defense, so hopefully we'll be able to keep him here. _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

Great signing. Avril is a contingency plan, but not a replacement plan for Clem.
If Clem recovers like we all hope he does, there's no way that we let him go. He has been our only pass rush the past few seasons, why get rid of that?
I think the Seahawks probably would have locked him up for longer if they could, but Avril knows what the 12th Man can do for his stats. I believe playing at C-Link increases any pass rusher's stats by 15%.
Does anyone know Avril ran a 4.51 40 at his pro day? That's insane for a 260 lb guy. Obviously Avril's only move is the speed rush- he's like Irvin but more polished. He gets off the ball as fast as anyone in the entire league- a la Freeney back in the day. He's bad against the run because he's only focused on that speed rush- which is fine in the right scenario. The part I'm most excited about is that speed rush at C-Link. I've seen him almost run right to the QB because of his speed of the edge.
He causes an elite amount of fumbles, I'm not sure why but my hunch is that he gets to the QB so quickly- right when QBs are releasing inside their normal internal clocks. _________________

In all likelihood I could see Avril staying here long term for a handful of reasons.
1. He had his agent seek out the Seahawks, not vice versa. He wanted to be on this team and I'm sure he took a cheaper deal to be here.
2. He told the Lions prior to leaving there that he's looking for a long term contract so he can have some stability for his family. I don't think he'd want to just be here for 2 years and then leave when he has a small boy growing up and going to school. _________________

| Quote: | Avril will receive a $4.5 million signing bonus and $1.5 million base salary this season. He's scheduled to receive a $7 million salary in 2014, bringing the two-year total to $13 million.
The structure provides Seattle with flexibility after one season. The first-year charge against the salary cap is a modest $3.75 million. |

From reading this sounds like we got him 2M cheaper then originally thought nice. _________________
