Hey guys, Chiefs fan here. I was wondering what you guys think the Seahawks will do with tight end Zach Miller? According to spotrac.com, in 2013 he is due to make $6,800,000 in base salary, a roster bonus of $3,000,000 and a workout bonus of $200,000. When those amounts are combined with the $1,000,000 in prorated signing bonus, he is going to have a cap hit of $11,000,000. If the Seahawks cut him, I believe they would gain $7,000,000 in cap space based on the calculation below :

$10,000,000* - $3,000,000# = $7,000,000

* = base salary $6,8000,000 + roster bonus $3,000,000 + $200,000 workout bonus

# = escalated signing bonus $3,000,000 (2013, 2014, 2015)

I am not exactly sure where you guys stand as far as the salary cap, but I was wondering if based on the acquisition of Percy Harvin and the likely long term contract he will sign, do you think this could impact what happens with Zach Miller and his $11,000,000 2013 cap charge?

I don't see him going anywhere. After this season his Cap hit is relatively minimal.

Where are you guys in relation to the salary cap right now? With Harvin reportedly going to end up in the range of $12 million per year, do you think Miller is worth $11 million this year and $7 million and $6 million in the next two years?

He's going no where. He's still relatively young an an absolute beast in the run game. Top 3 blocking tight end IMO. If they cut him I will be really surprised

I doubt that Miller gets cut, Pete likes him a lot and he is a key cog in the Hawks O

His blocking ability is superb, and if he can play at the level he played against the Falcons then he's staying regardless of cap hit

I've only heard they might try to get him to rework it, but it doesn't seem like they have any intention of cutting him whatsoever.

His cap hits start to fall drastically after this year, which will coincide with when money is really needed for future signings. After this year we really only have Kam, Tate and Breno (players of consequence) up again it seems so the Hawks are still in an okay cap situation. The year after that it'll probably start to get hairy and by then Zach's cap hits are fairly reasonable.

Edit: Browner and Baldwin are up after this year as well, but I've seen that they are restricted free agents though.

Browner will leave if he wants a big contract and Baldwin will be cheap to resign.

Pete has raved about Zach ever since he's been here. He's going no where.
