|

Pick 14 comes along; Lane Johnson, Kenny Vaccarro, and Sheldon Richardson are off the board; without a doubt, those are the 3 guys are are targeting at this spot. No teams are willing to move up for our pick.
This could likely happen as there are teams that need players at these respective positions.
What do we do if this happens? What's your big board look like then.
Here's my mini board if this was to happen:
1. Cordarelle Patterson
2. Xavier Rhodes
3. Tavon Austin
Also, if those 3 are gone; more than likely that means someone is falling. _________________

A doomsday scenario would be something like:
1. KC--Luke Joeckel
2. JAX--Barkevious Mingo
3. OAK--Star Lotulelei
4. PHI--Sharif Floyd
5. DET--Kenny Vaccaro
6. CLE--Dee Milliner
7. AZ--Eric Fisher
8. BUF--Geno Smith
9. NYJ--Chance Warmack
10. TEN--Sheldon Richardson
11. SD--Lane Johnson
12. MIA--Cordarrelle Patterson
13. TB--Xavier Rhodes
Now obviously thats not the most likely of drafts, but it could happen. If it does, I think here are our options:
1. Trade Down (still some great pass rushers on the board, maybe someone wants to grab one)
2. Johnathan Cyprien (really moving up draft boards, probably a top 25 pick as is, could be a good pick for us in a worst case scenario)
3. Desmond Trufant (another big mover, probably will be the 3rd corner taken)
4. DeAndre Hopkins (I think he's the best fit at WR for us in the draft, teams will definitely consider him around the early 20's, so its not that much of a reach here)
5. Jonathan Cooper (A great guard in his own right, he has the talent to be a top 20 pick, falls down boards a bit because of Warmack) _________________

Here is how I see it: Eliminate the players who are not needs who are fairly certain to go early in the first round:
Geno Smith
Dion Jordan
Ziggy Ansah
Bjourn Werner
Matt Barkley (will have a solid pro day and be drafted early)
Barkevous Mingo
Jarvis Jones
Now list the players who are needs of ours:
Star Lotulelei DT
Sharrif Floyd DT
Dee Milliner CB
Eric Fisher T
Luke Joeckel T
Chance Warmack G
Lance Johnson T
Sheldon Richardson DT
Cordarrelle Patterson WR
I see no way we lose. I would, however, NOT trade down lower than about pick 16 because I see the talent level dropping off around the middle of round 1. |

How is WR a need? Smith, Lafell and Gettis still on the roster to go along with Olsen. We need defensive help 1st and foremost! DT,FS,CB then MAYBE WR! _________________ "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood

You are aware that Smith will be 33 when the season starts, Lafell has never shown any inclination of being a number 1 guy, and Gettis has not been relevant in 2 seasons. WR is just as big a need than any other this draft, we need more weapons for Cam, not just for right now but for the future. _________________

I agree, but there isn't a single receiver in this draft i'd feel good about taking at 14. I'd rather take a Desmond Trufant to shore up the secondary. _________________

^^ this i would rather take a OL or Trufant at 14. The WR's in this draft are all about the same to me in the first 3 rounds _________________

Not doubting that at all, I think Patterson is the head of the bunch, but any of the remaining WRs could be available at our 2nd round pick. I think the emphasis of this thread is a worst case scenario in the 1st round with all OL DB and DT prospects off the board, which could happen with all the trades that happen. _________________

Honestly, I bet there will be more than 1 QB going ahead of us, and that will help out a ton. QB and Pass Rusher are 2 spots that we firmly don't need, and they could easily make up 7+ of the first 13 picks. _________________
