But if you add a mismatch nightmare at the #2 TE spot where we really don't have a receiving threat currently on the team, you open this offense up to do things it can't currently do. Cook would essentially erase our need for a WR.

Cook is a "mismatch" in theory only.

Why? Just because he was underutilized in Tennessee doesn't mean he's any less of a threat.

He wasn't underused. People have been making that excuse for Cook since he entered the league. The Titans even fired their coordinator mid-season partially for his using Cook more situationally, and they had Cook play more snaps. What did it accomplish? The offense played worse and Cook's stats didn't change. The reality is he's soft and inconsistant, and is a loser anyway. I get wanting another receiving threat but giving a big contract to a guy like Cook doesn't seem like a smart move to me. It's one thing if the guy was hated across the league and would come dirt cheap but Cook's looking for a payday.

And I don't think Cook sees a big payday once teams start offering him contracts. He doesn't have the numbers to warrant a big WR $$$ deal and he'll be surprised if he expects otherwise. As for your first comment, Cook was special when Tennessee focused on targeting him. He has the ability to shred defenses.

Jared Cook is nothing special. He's an average tight end. He wants to be called WR because he sucks at tight end. He's an average WR too. The excuse is he doesn't have a QB. Well when Kenny Britt is healthy he has no problem putting up gaudy numbers. I don't want Cook anywhere near our team. And he won't be. We would be better off drafting an actual tight end like Ertz/Eifert or signing/drafting an actual WR. Or we could just throw at Miller more like we did in the playoffs. He looked pretty darn good.
