Just a request for all the moderators.
Instead of posting on every thread "OP Forgot To Add Comments" - Can you not just take the time to PM the OP?
1) It derails the entire thread and begins a series of bickering between mods and non-mods of people either defending or berating the OP.
2) It does not add anything to the topic at hand and would be just as useful being addressed in a PM. By not adding anything to the original post, the are violating the rules of the forum by way of trying to enforce the rules of the forum. Sort of ironic don't you think?
3) I try my best not to [inappropriate/removed] the moderators off (although not always successful) so I didn't want to put this in a thread but thought I'd leave it here as a "Moderator Suggestion Box" so to speak. I just know that many of my fellow posters have expressed that this has made it difficult to read the NFL News Forum. When the thread becomes about the critique and not about the news it's distracting. If you don't like the idea then just ignore me.
Thanks FF Moderators for all the work you do. _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

I think I understand what you are getting at, and the reason that moderators ask that more is brought from the OP than just a link especially in forums like NFL News. Webby strives to have some of the best discussion here on FF, and that means everyone pulling their part.
For example, let's say I'm starting up the topic about Mike Wallace and the Dolphins already having an agreement in place. The easy post would be to post a link, and then to ask for thoughts and leave it at that. The more developed post would be to post the link, propose a question, and then try and answer that question to hopefully spur more discussion.
The reason that mods post to ask for more discussion is to put it out there for others to follow as well. If you're a new poster and see someone starting up a news topic and just leaving it as is you'd assume it's okay to do the same. Instead, by putting the little notice asking for more from the OP you're putting the notion out to expand more when opening up a topic.
Hopefully that helps answer your question. _________________

Sometimes the post is not only meant as a reminder to the OP, but also so that other posters will remember for future posts.
**EDIT** I see CWood addressed this but worded it differently. tl:dr |

I don't take issue with the rule perse - I understand why a short blurb with the OP's opinion is required. It means we fall somewhere between twitter and the archaic art of journalism. My issue is more in which the way it is enforced or, rather, the way in which the "reminders" are sent. When the very first post of a great NFL News story is "OP Needs Opinion" - it doesn't start us out on the right foot and get the great conversation going. I know it serves as a reminder to everyone but, let's be honest, most of us know the rules and there are only a couple of people that are post first - edit opinions later kind of people.
I see Webmaster has changed the rules a bit temporarily so we'll see how that works out.
Anyway, just wanted to clear that up. Thanks CWood! _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

I don't really understand why the rule for personal opinions applied in the first place.
Who cares what the OP thinks about the news? We just want the news! _________________

Who cares what the OP thinks about the news? We just want the news! | it's real easy to just give you the news. But the purpose of the thread is to discuss the news. When you have 30 threads and 1 or 2 replies in each thread. How is that promoting discussion? |

| This has already been solved. Members can just post a link to start a news topic but need to still reply with some good discussion. |
