Chiefs are releasing RT Eric Winston, per league source.

Winston is mostly remembered last season for complaining about fans chearing after QB Matt Cassel went down with an injury.

The former Texan signed a 4-year, $22 million contract last season and went on to start all 16 games. Winston started all 16 games the past 6 seasons.

Winston gave up 3 sacks in 2012.

Really, why?

I remember really wanting him on the Dolphins last year. Was he that bad, Chiefs fans?? I was under the impression he was still a top RT last year...

Surprising. Shocked I remember just the other day a poster listing Winston as a a core player for the Chiefs, and a part to why they are going to be good this year. Laughing

Don't remember him ever being anything above average. He did throw the whole Chiefs fan base under the bus when Cassel got hurt, a few people cheered and he did the whole "This isn't the Roman Coliseum. We aren't gladiators" rant.

Does this make Joekel the #1 pick again?

The free-agent OT market was already pretty deep, this adds to it.

I'll take Winston in Jax. He has ZBS experience from his days with the Texans.

Well how would you react if people were cheering because a teammate got injured?

Rolling Eyes

ProFootballFocus had him listed as the 9th best RT in 2012, so he was still fairly productive last year. The Dolphins OL is in shambles with Jake Long probably leaving, I'd love to bring Winston in especially because he's familiar with our Zone Blocking Scheme, we could move Jon Martin to LT.

I guess this furthers the cause for a OT at #1 overall?

I wonder if they are going to move Albert to RT, where he is probably a better fit and draft Joeckel.

This seems to be the best guess as of now.

90% of the cheers didn't come until Quinn came running out onto the field and the media ran with the story for a while (with many mixed reports, some reports saying people boo'ed Cassel) which made all Chiefs fans look classless.

I also wouldn't lock up Joeckel or Fisher going to KC yet. If KC is committed to keeping Albert longterm then that means they will keep him as a LT. Stephenson could start at RT for us.

Well, he was right whether Chiefs fans like it or not. It's incredibly stupid to cheer when someone gets injured. And by a few people you mean a couple thousands, right?

Back on topic, welcome to KC Luke.

I could see him returning to Houston. But I'm surprised by this move. They must really want Joeckel or Fisher at #1 so either one can take over in 2014-2015
