Just curious, when you guys are talking about how little cap room we have right now, is that before or after we (probably) cut Cassel? I really hope it's before, because if we barely have any cap room AFTER cutting Cassel we could be in a pickle. _________________

I think we are in better shape from a cap standpoint than some of us are thinking. I am trying to crunch the numbers myself and see what I can come up with. Cassel has to still be counted as being on the books. I am using spotrac.com which seems to be pretty accurate. That site doesn't have the Tyson Jackson restructure up yet (I believe that is a maximum amount of $5,200,000) or the Colquitt 2013 cap charge (base salary + prorated signing bonus + any workout/roster bonuses if included).
Edit : This would explain why Dorsey has been signing/restructuring/franchising and still reportedly looking at setting up meeting with free agents (talk of interest in Sean Smith and Jared Cook to name two that I have heard about). _________________

Takeo Spikes about to get cut from SD....any chance he could fit here for a year or 2 while we sort out our ILB spot? _________________

I like adding a vet at ILB but I think Bart Scott makes more sense. He wouldn't have that huge contract and he knows Sutton's defense. |

I would say re-sign Brandon Siler and Edgar Jonez (Jones for his special teams play and as depth) and draft Kevin Reddick. _________________

Just read in the ESPN Insider Rumor page that the Raiders "are poised to release Rolando McClain."
The guy has talent, but his off-field issues will be a concern to anyone who shows interest.
Do you take a chance on a guy like this if the money is right? _________________

I loved McClain coming out, but honestly, right now I think he's going to be a guy who gets mostly one year "prove it" contract offers. And seeing as though we may or may not be tight salary cap wise, a one year deal is tough for us to pick up.
And I don't think he'll be THAT cheap. _________________

You could be right, but then I get to thinking....if a guy with off-the-field issues is being axed by the Raiders (who, justifiably or not, are known for accepting this type of behavior) then what will other teams think about him.
True, it only takes one team and an over-valued contract to throw that argument out the window, but it should be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks. _________________

These are not Al's Raiders anymore. McKenzie knows what he is doing. _________________

Agreed, but it will take a while before that reputation is gone I think. _________________

How I'd love to add Michael Turner to the Chiefs. Or even Steven Jackson. _________________

I think more Jackson than Turner for me. At least Jackson can catch the ball. Turner has never had a year with more than 19 receptions, and Jackson has only had one year (his rookie year) where he caught less than 38, as much as Reid loves the screen game. Jackson seems a much better fit. Though I don't think honestly we have a shot at either unless we trade JC. _________________
