You sure? I thought he just replaced Clemons, but you might be right since Red Bryant was in on a lot of passing situation and he's not a pass rusher at all. |
he was the SAM .. and typically came from the left side of the defense. _________________

So what kind of player do we have on the right? A 3-4 DE? 3-4 DT? 4-3 RE? _________________

Don't get caught up in 1 defensive alignment it will vary depending on the offensive personnel, formation and down&distance. The 4-3U is just a base defense, last yr we spent a good amount of time in nickel. Depending what we do to our DB situation we may see a ton of that this yr as well. _________________

right but thats a open ended statement with little meaning ...that can be said about every defense..
dont think its going to look anything like last year and yeah were here to discuss the draft an free agency so understanding the alignment and the certain type of personnel is needed. _________________

I was under the assumption that we were running what the Seahawks ran but they're not quite the same. At least what Davis ran in ARZ is a little different than what the Seahawks run. Specifically the LEO/predator, in Seattle they move him around so that he's always coming off edge on weakside, which is usually left. _________________

Our LEO will be standing up, where the LEO for the most part have his hand in the dirt. Also in AZ Davis kept sides, so even if the TE shifted side, the SAM and Predator would remain at the same side. _________________

Not to surprising after looking at Chip's past. It seems like he kind of let the D-Coordinator run his defense at Oregon, wouldn't expect that to change in the NFL. |

Rather than start a new "defense" thread, it might be time to revive this one. Considering, due to Kelly's comments, there was some concern that we may be going to a more "classic 3-4" look as opposed to the "4-3 under".
This draft has somewhat reassured me that the Eagles will most likely use some form of the "4-3 under" look. Now that it is over, it might be interesting to talk about who fits where and maybe why in the front seven.
For reference, the "4-3 under" looks something like this:
| Code: |
---------------TE--OT--OG--OC--OG--OT---------------
-----------------5T------1T------3T-----Pred--------
----------SAM-------MIKE-----------WILL-------------
|
I think it's pretty likely that Soap starts off at the 1. With Dixon and Logan battling for the backup (and possibly future starter) spot.
Cox should be the 3 with Thornton and Cameron fighting for the spot in the rotation (I think it's safe to say Thornton wins).
The Eagles have a ton of guys to look at at the 5. Geathers, Curry, Kruger, King, Square, Remington. Of course it's possible that one of those guys also fits in at the 1 (Remington?) or the 3 (King, Square?) and joind the rotation there.
Cole and Graham are (IMO) the obvious choices to get the first look at Predator. But Davis could like barwin there for whatever reason (although who projects to SAM if that is the case, I have no idea...). Brown and Hunt should also get looks here, but I find it highly unlikely either fits in other than as a reserve.
After Barwin, I have no idea who on the roster fits at SAM. Perhaps one of you knows some of the other guys better and has some ideas. McCoy has the size, but I don't know much about him. Is he an inside or outside backer?
I think WILB should be an ideal spot for Kendricks. Chaney and Matthews (IMO) project better there than any spot they have played previously.
Ryans will almost certainly play MIKE.
Where do some of the other guys project best?
Acho
Phillips
McCoy

Dont rule out Thornton as 5 tech. McCoy is an OLB, but I read he's stiff. Acho is probably the primary backup to Ryans, Philips is a good ST'er and probably backup WILB _________________
