Mike Nolan is primarily a 3-4 guy
what do you guys think a lineup would look like 3-4 wise for us? _________________

The more I look into it, I doubt we ever become a truly exclusive 3-4 defense. He has run both defenses before in his career and so I think our D will reflect that diversity. _________________

NT-Peters
DE-Walker
OLB-Biermann/Massaquoi
ILB-Spoon
ILB-Dent
OLB-Nicholas/Matthews

I don't see it. The personnel is just not there. _________________

It isn't yet. The DL is there. But we need a pass rushing OLB in order for it to work. _________________

The do isn't there either. We don't have a nt and we really don't have the ends. You want bigger, longer ends so they can hold up blockers and free up others. That's not babs, Jerry or walker. It's probably not even the best for peters.
Not to mention are lbs are a better fit for a 4-3 as well |

I first thought the same thing after releasing Abe, but you look and it just doesn't make sense. We'd need a more true NT. The DL doesn't necessarily have to be "lengthy" or tall, but they have to be strong and get a good push, which we don't really have, them being tall would be a plus though. We'd be fine at ILB, but we'd need a pass rushing OLB. IMO Nic and Spoon would both be ILBs. We could pull it off through FA and the draft IMO, but Nolan needs to either pick to always run both or only run one. I don't want this possibly of a switch to look for years... _________________

You look at the best 3-4 ends in the league and the vast majority are tall/long. Why? So hey can engage, lockout and occupy blockers for the backers. Having penetrating ends in a 3-4 rarely works. Babs, jerry and walker aren't 3-4 ends, peters is pnt a nt. we don't have a real good rush lb option and you're moving our best defensive player into a support role at ILB. It really doesn't make sense on any level. |

This defense is just a few D line pieces away from becoming really good. Switch to a 3-4 and we are basically taking steps backwards. _________________

I think our hybrid front is what well stick with. Its great to be versatile and use situational defenses. IMO Nolan wants to run primarily nickel. Whether that be 42 or 33 based on down distance. _________________
