I actually thought the opposite. I thought he looked like one of the smoother DL to LB converts doing the drills. Him and Jordan were definitely the most fluid looking imo. |
Hmmm.... interesting. I thought his balance in his turns was poor... not fluid when changing directions. I did record this stuff... but you saying that will make sure I take another look. |
I thought he was a bit stiff too. But if we're looking at him to beef up and play DE it won't matter quite as much. He won't be dropping back into pass coverage very often as a DE, and even then it would likely to be a short zone. _________________

Man. We can't let oldie drive. He's had some other crashes around this time of year in the past. _________________

I can't drive either. My Darrell Robertson bandwagon is still in flame, in a ditch nowhere near the NFL. _________________

Right. Yeah, not worried about his COD as a DE. I just don't like him in space as a rush LB. I do want him to get some thickness to his thighs and calves though, if we go that DE route. _________________

4.38...not expecting that one. Oldman, where do you see him playing in the pros? in a off man scheme or FS? _________________

I had him slated as more of a FS... hmmm... may have to go back and look at the film. _________________

4.38 is impressive, but I still don't think he can cover. Its like DHB in Oakland. A fast corner who can't cover (not fluid enough for man IMO) and can't tackle is about as useful as a WR with 4.3 speed but no hands. Just not a fan of amerson. Better suited for safety in the NFL I think (and that is a position I think he'd be draftable for us) _________________

Yeah, it seems like a reaction time thing that will cause Amerson trouble... particularly as a CB. The conclusion for me is that sure, he has fast straight line speed... BUT... his mental processes do not trigger those muscles to move as quickly as they should. That, and his COD/plant and go is lacking... but we'll get a better look in the coming drills on that one. _________________

Pretty shameful and offensive coverage all weekend and on... They get so locked up on overrated prospects like Te'o and Mathieu that take much away from the rest. _________________

NFL Combine 2013: Defensive Line and Linebacker Notes

| Quote: | | Sharrif Floyd, Florida: I have Floyd going third overall in the draft, and he did nothing to prove me wrong. He's very quick for his size at 297 lbs, and gets off the ball well. Former 49ers player Bryant Young coached Floyd at Florida and it appears he taught him how to play like a Niner. Floyd is going to be the first or second defensive tackle off the board. |

Jordan Poyer with a 4.46... hoped for better, but not bad at all.
Eric Reid runs a 4.53.. that was the top end I expected.
Xavier Rhodes... a 4.41 _________________

Texas FS Kenny Vaccaro ran forty times of 4.59 and 4.63 at the NFL Scouting Combine.
They're not sensational times at first glance, but Vaccaro weighs 214 pounds and is very light on his feet even if his straight-line speed isn't sensational. In last year's West Virginia-Texas game, Vaccaro gave Tavon Austin all kinds of problems in the slot; Austin was only able to get open against Texas' other DBs. Vaccaro remains a strong candidate to be drafted in the top 25.

Florida State CB Xavier Rhodes ran forty times of 4.41 and 4.41 at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Rhodes is a bit of a size-speed athletic freak at 6-foot-2, 210 with low 4.4 wheels. Although there has been some discussion of Rhodes moving to safety, he's more likely to be drafted as a cornerback in a press-man coverage scheme. Rhodes has shown playmaking ability on the ball and possesses physical traits to develop into a legit No. 1 NFL corner. He's a surefire top-20 overall pick.
