I love the idea of trading back to aquire more picks. I'm assuming the "tag and trade" scenario for Spencer is only a pipe dream and not going to happen? I ask this because of the players you mentioned (Spencer, Jenkins, F. Jones and problaby Spears-my addition) we get NOTHING in return for them? Man, there are FOUR 1st round picks with less then stellar careers just walking out the door. That is unacceptable.
We have to get something for AT LEAST one of those players. This is the problem I have with hanging on to players that are 8-10 years in the league already.
If we are not even making the playoffs for crying out loud, then we should beging to move some of them before we are faced with a situation of having to resign them to a large contract or let them walk.
And make no mistake, if we are going to move a veteran player I expect a decent round pick in the draft (2nd-4th) or a player of considerable talent at a position of greater need for us.
As for the draft, I like it except for the guys in bold type. We are pretty well stacked at LB and CB right now. If we draft another CB in ANY round I will absolutely puke. We just spent 50 million on 1 guy and traded away our 2nd from last year for another. "ENOUGH FROM THE CLOWN!" As far as I'm concerned, those positions are covered for now.
I would go O line and D line again. Someone on here once wrote "Early and Often" when it came to drafting for the trenches. This is one year when that absolutely has to happen.
The Melton deal, I like this very much. |

If we're trading out of the 1st round, I wouldn't accept any compensation which didn't include a 1st round pick in 2014. _________________

Agreed, 100% agree. I'm starting to think that might be our best move given how deep this draft is in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. _________________

Here's the question though: Would Garrett even consider that an option since he knows he needs to add impact players right now since this is basically his make or break year? _________________

The head coach shouldn't be the one making the draft day decisions. That should fall upon the GM since that's a GMs primary responsibility unless control of personnel is written into the coaches contract, and we know that isn't the case here. So ultimately, Joan should be making that decision, not Redball. _________________

This is true. But, its been widely reported that Joan takes LOTS of input (maybe too much) from his scouts and coaches when making decisions. I wouldn't put it out reach for Garrett to convince Jerry that staying put in this year's draft is the best way to go. You really have faith that Jerry would disagree and actually plan for the future? I don't. _________________

With the way Cooper performed at the combine and looks on film, I doubt he falls to the 18th pick let alone 24. Our biggest competition is with the Rams for Cooper and it would be shocking to see them passing on him twice. _________________

He's an OG. He'll fall because teams don't value the position highly. People say this same silliness every year, and every year the OG falls in the draft. _________________

I don't play the game "so and so won't be there." The reality is there are always surprises in the draft. _________________

Not sure if you guys ever check out Draftek, but they had a pretty sweet first 3 rounds for Dallas I thought...
1. Jonathan Cooper, OG
2. Kawann Short, DT
3. Menelik Watson, OT
4. Cornelius Washington, DE (TJ McDonald, DJ Swearinger and a ton of RB's including Christine Michael (*COUGH, COUGH...FFMD GUYS!!)
5. Sanders Commings, CB (Shamarko Thomas, Jelani Jenkins, David Quessenberry all went after)
6. Michael Williams, TE (Dallas Thomas, Matt Scott, and Everett Dawkins all went after)
Rounds 4-6 could have been better and, not to mention, they didn't have Dallas grabbing a safety at all in the draft. But the first 3 rounds I liked quite a bit...
*Again, been a while since I read all the forum rules, but I don't want to link anything if thats not allowed, and I'm only listing Dallas' picks and not the entire draft* _________________

I don't disagree with the notice at all and history backs it up, but someone will crack and make an OG a top 12 pick. Maybe not this year, but at some point the value of protecting your QB is going to override the typical draft value of an OG. Warmack and Cooper just may be good enough to do that. _________________

Broaddus said last night that Cooper was rated higher after the Combine, and would know more after Alabama pro day if he thought Warmack would be there at 18. HIs gut thinks that Warmack or Johnson will be there at 18, but feels that Cowboys are going DL in the first if he had to guess. _________________
