|
|

Ok, So I get that many don’t like the NFL value chart for draft picks but I still use it as a reference for potential trades and here’s a logical one I came across…
Saints send the 15th overall pick to the 49ers for picks 31 (1st), 61 (2nd), 93 (3rd) & 150 (5th).
As far as the value;
Pick 15: 1,o50 points
Total: 1,050 points
Pick 31: 600 points
Pick 61: 292 points
Pick 93: 128 points
Pick 150: 31.4 points
Total: 1,051.4 points
The reason I could see this trade happening is because the Niners are loaded with draft picks (not to mention the likely top 3rd rounder then will land from the Chiefs for QB Alex Smith) and not enough roster spots for those players so they will surely be looking to make a move up for a more premium pick on draft day.
The Saints on the other hand have a lot of holes to fill both on defense and at offensive tackle. With this trade the Saints basically add a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round pick for simply moving down 15 spots in the 1st round where in this draft class I’m sure Loomis and Payton could still find a quality defender with the 31st pick.
So, my question to you is… would you make this trade if offered and do you have any other trade ideas that you think could logically happen?

I would take that trade in a second. Wouldn't even think twice about it, unless JJ or Star fell to our pick. _________________

I agree...
Potential targets at the end of the first round:
Defensive Back
Xavier Rhodes
Jonathan Banks
Desmond Trufant
Matt Elam
Jonathan Cyprien
Linebacker
Alex Ogletree
Manti Te’o
Kevin Minter
Alex Okafor
Sam Montgomery
Defensive Lineman
Jonathan Hankins
Jesse Williams
Kawann Short
Jonathan Jenkins
Donte Jones
So the real question would be… is the player we’d land at 15, that much better than landing one of these cats plus adding an additional 2nd, 3rd & 5th round pick? _________________

If Da'Quan Bowers can slide to the second round, Jarvis Jones can slide to the second round.
If the 49ers offered that trade I can't think of a single player that would make me pass up that deal off the top of my head.
As Whodat pointed out, getting one of those in the 1st still, and possibly another starter in the 2nd, either waiting or trading back up higher into the 2nd... think if we got Ogletree at 31, then traded back up with those extra picks to get Elam. Followed by Gaethers/Williams later in the draft.
DE-Jordan
NT-Bunkley/Gaethers
DE-Hicks/Smith
OLB-Vilma/Wilson
ILB-Lofton
ILB-Ogletree
OLB-Galette
CB-Robinson
FS-Jenkins
SS-Elam

I'd do it in a heartbeat. I have a man crush forming for Xavier Rhodes. If we could trade back and select him, that'd be dope. _________________

Exactly T-Raves...
It's just the more I study these players coming out, while I do see this as a deep class... I don't see the big time impact difference maker that would make me say, "hey that deal isn't worth it".
I can understand the 49ers view point... they have the picks, no roster spots for them and if they could get up and get a guy like Vaccaro (assuming they lose Gholdson), Patterson or Warmack I say it's worth it to them.
As far as the Saints, almost every defensive player that could potentially be a impact player at 15 has MAJOR medical, character or evulation concerns.
I say make the deal... the value is right and if the Niners don't call us, call them! _________________

Plus it'd be a nice "FU" to Goodell which is always good. _________________

What's crazy is that even with this trade the 49ers would still have another 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th rounder not including the picks they are soon to land from KC for Alex Smith which will either be the top pick in either the 3rd or 4th... I doubt the 2nd but ya never know! _________________

If we'd make this trade... I'd even be tempted to trade the 31st pick to one of those teams in the top 8 picks of the 2nd round who are looking to move back up into the end of the 1st for one of these quarterbacks.
Time to start stock piling picks!!! _________________

Say after the 49er trade we then hit this one…
Saints trade the 31st pick overall to the Bills (Bills move up for QB Ryan Nassib) for the 41st (2nd), 102nd (4th) & 166th (6th) picks in the 2013 draft.
So for moving down 10 more spaces the Saints add another 4th and 6th round pick with their first selection coming at 41st overall.
Picks acquired…
2nd (41)
2nd (61)
3rd (93)
4th (102)
5th (150)
6th (166)
To go along with their current remaining picks…
75th (3rd)
106th (4th)
170th (5th)
137th (6th)
The value of the Buffalo trade is as follows…
Pick 31: 600 points
Total: 600
Pick 41: 490 points
Pick 102: 92 points
Pick 166: 25 points
Total: 607 _________________

Wouldn't be against that either. Plus it would build suspense leading up to the second day of the draft _________________

Just a quick one… simply to show why I feel quanity will be better than quality in this draft for the Saints:
2nd (41)
Matt Elam SS Florida
2nd (61)
Terron Armstead OT Arkansas-Pine Bluff
3rd (75th)
Robert Alford CB Southeast Louisiana
3rd (93)
Jamie Collins OLB Southern Miss
4th (102)
Bennie Logan DT Louisiana State
4th (106)
Brandon Jenkins DE Florida State
5th (150)
Duke Williams FS Nevada
5th (170)
Nico Johnson ILB Alabama
6th (137)
Tyrann Mathieu CB/S Louisiana State
6th (166)
Corey Grissom NT South Florida
Not saying this is how it would or should go down but this route helps us add more talent as a whole and we still land a impact player with our top pick. _________________

| It would all depend on who was available at 15. I still think that there is elite talent in this draft. The Saints need a game change on defense...and if that guy is available...a guy like Jarvis Jones...I'm not trading. I would rather one superstar than three average players. The Saints already have a bunch of those types of guys. |
