I don't care if he hits on late rounders, the fact that so many of our 1st rounders flop shows me he's no genius when it comes to drafting. |
Eh...
02 - Charles Grant and Donte Stallworth
03 - Jonathan Sullivan
04 - Will Smith
05 - Jammal Brown
06 - Reggie Bush
07 - Robert Meachem
08 - Sedrick Ellis
09 - Malcolm Jenkins
10 - Patrick Robinson
11 - Mark Ingram and Cameron Jordan
Honestly, thats not a bad list. The only real busts were Jonathan Sullivan, Sedrick Ellis and potentially Malcolm Jenkins (Pretty much guaranteed)
Grant and Smith were arguably the best DE duo in the league for a few years, Stallworth was a good WR here, Jammal Brown was a top LT for years, Bush was misused but a weapon nonetheless and lets not forget how great he played in our Super Bowl playoff run, Robert Meachem was a good #2 WR, Patrick Robinson has shown tons of promise, Cameron Jordan is a stud and Mark Ingram is still an unknown.
He's definitely not a draft genius but I think you guys are forgetting the success he had in the early 2000s and if Robinson, Ingram and Jordan progress like we hope they do then he's had quite a nice haul. _________________

I was more commenting on the fact that he really hasn't missed on that many first rounders. He's definitely one of the better drafters in the league. Look at some of the 1st round picks the Lions, Cardinals, Raiders, Jets, Bills etc. etc. etc. have had. _________________

Being better than consistently bad teams isn't anything to brag about. _________________

He's been pretty good though...3 busts in 10 years really isn't that bad. People are stuck on the fact that some of these guys are gone now and some of them have regressed terribly. He has a pretty successful first round rate actually, I'd say his biggest struggles are the middle rounds. He consistently hits on 1sts and late round picks, but consistently misses between 3-6, but thats really not anything out of the norm. _________________

When I made this thread I made it based off 2010. I looked back on Page 26 of this forum in the thread of drafting P-Rob. 90% of people hated it and wanted Sergio Kindle, Texas DE. I was one of them. When the draft was happening, I wanted Kindle from the start. He was the best DE in the draft (according to the analysts at the time at least) and I though he'd compliment Will Smith very well.
Now look where Kindle is compared to P-Rob.
A guy without a job and head injuries vs a promising DB with 7 picks. _________________

This "diabolical genius" still put together a team that won a Super Bowl. That 2006 draft was a beast. I don't think any of the Saints' first rounders he picked were busts, but some (such as Ellis) underperformed.
I don't use the word "bust" so loosely to describe a player....when people mention bust, I instantly think Johnathan Sullivan bad. |
