I was just curious - I dont advocate a S early and like the trades back to stock pile picks but didnt see starters at those picks - especially after our ST draft of 09 and even more recemtly the 5th amd 6ths just dont do us friendly _________________

The problem with the 09 draft, as I pointed out immediately following that draft, was the strategy going in. Joan and Co. had no interest whatsoever in looking for starters. They wanted backups and special teams players and conducted an entire draft to accommodate those wants. And I agree that we stink at later round picks, which is an indictment on our scouting department and is one of the prime reasons why I've supported dumping the fools we have and replacing them with people who don't have a connection to the Cowboys organization. We don't need cronies anymore. We need real scouts who understand how to find talent. Hell, you and I could do a better job than many of the morons currently with the team because we actually watch college ball and are familiar with many of those players. But there in-lies the problem. Our "GM" and our "scouts" don't spend any time watching film on college players throughout the season. They do it in a rush job fashion from January to April rather than from August of the previous year to April of the current. Because of that, we limit our ability to recognize guys who can play and be developed into starting caliber players.
Then again, our "GM" doesn't watch any film at all because he isn't a football guy and can't recognize talent if it fell in his lap. He's too busy trying to set up marketing events at the stadium and finding ways to sell more jerseys from high profile skill position players rather than working feverishly to field a winning product. _________________

And what if we could just trade Herschel Walker again? _________________
