Don't read into it. He was indirectly quoting the two commits who are pushing him to go to Michigan.
So it was more Cole saying, "They tell me, 'Our class is going to be really small'."
Not saying you won't get him, just trying to clarify. |

Sounds like Jerry Montgomery is all but gone to take the open DL coach spot at Oklahoma. Big loss on the recruiting side of things.

Any idea how this changes stuff with Mason Cole? He said he wants to visit UW at some point, so even though we have no chance, I'm holding out hope.

I believe Montgomery was one of his recruiters, but not the only one and he coaches on the opposite side of the ball, so I dont think it will have much of an impact (but I could be wrong).
Losing Montgomery sucks because he is a young, good coach and recruiter, but I'm confident we will hire a good replacement and Hoke and Mattison are both DL guys so I dont expect a drop off in coaching. Might hurt a little bit in the short term for recruiting, but even there I dont expect much of a big negative impact as we usually have multiple coaches recruiting guys, specifically Mattison.

No.
Obviously nothing is finalized, but it sounds like Hoke will be coaching the DT's (he already coached the NT spot) and Mattison will be coaching the DE's and we will probably hire someone to coach the OLB's. Hoke and Mattison already coached positions on the DL when Montgomery was here.

I don't think it was so much about the money. Per reports, he's going to be getting $272,000 a year from OU. He was making $202,000 but all of the assistants were in line for raises and he was made an offer to stay. I think he just saw more of an opportunity to advance. At OU he will have full control of the defensive line coaching instead of sharing duties with the HC and DC like he was doing here. So he has a couple years working under Hoke and Mattison already on his resume, and now he'll be able to add working under the Stoops brothers to that.
