Ray Edwards is expected to step into the ring next month against either Van Goodman, whose record is 2-3-2, or John Moxey, whose record is 1-2. Sadly, either one of those guys would have the best record of any opponent Edwards has faced in his brief boxing career.

QB Tarvaris Jackson signed a one-year deal with Buffalo that could be worth up to $4.5 million.

Not bad for Jackson, i liked him a potential back up here.
Jackson has gotten a couple good contracts for a journeymen backup, I applaud him. He has really done a good job at maximizing his value as a backup in terms of compensation. _________________

i think some of that is due to the players' union having set salary levels for veterans. _________________

which is ideal, put the money in the hands of vets instead of uknown rookies. Id rather see someone like Jackson make a decent chunk of money in there playing career than someone like JaMarcus Russell (going forward, the rookie scale helps with this) _________________

Husain Abdullah has signed with the Chiefs.
| Quote: | After taking a year away from the game, former Minnesota Vikings' safety Husain Abdullah is back in the National Football League.
On Saturday, Abdullah signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. He and his brother Hamza Abdullah took the 2012 season off to take a pilgrimage to Mecca, in accordance with their Muslim faith. |

MLB Network will be debuting a new program, “The Next Knuckler” on Feb. 13. The premise of the show is to have former Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield teach a bunch of former college and NFL quarterbacks how to throw a knuckleball. The quarterback who shows the most promise as a pitcher will get an invitation from the Arizona Diamondbacks to try out for the team at spring training this season, according to Craig Calcaterra of NBC Sports.
The quarterbacks who will compete for the invitation are John David Booty; his brother, Josh Booty; Doug Flutie; David Greene and Ryan Perrilloux. _________________

You could also include Perriloux as a former Viking, since he tried out for them 3 years ago. _________________

As officially recorded, Jackson's contract is a one-year, $1.75 million deal with no guaranteed money or incentives. In reality, the deal includes a $500,000 signing bonus (which already has been paid) and incentives that could earn Jackson another $2.25 million, if he takes 65 percent of the snaps on offense.
More specifically, Jackson will get an extra $500,000 if he takes half of the snaps in 2013. He’ll get an additional $750,000 if he takes 60 percent of the snaps. And he’ll pick up another $1 million if he takes 65 percent of the snaps.
In all, it’s a $2.25 million package with $2.25 million in available incentives. The guarantee is $500,000.

It took 15 seasons for Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk to win his first Super Bowl. Apparently he intends on going out a champion. According to the Baltimore Sun, Birk is set to announce his retirement on Friday.
Birk spent his first 11 seasons in the league with the Minnesota Vikings before signing with Baltimore in 2009. Birk has started 187 games over 15 seasons. Birk has been named to the Pro Bowl six times and a two-time All-Pro.

The Detroit Lions will have a little bit more spending money to use when free agency opens next month. Wide receiver Nate Burleson and the team agreed to a restructured contract for 2013, a person familiar with the deal said.
Burleson, who said after the season he was willing to take a pay cut to stay in Detroit, is the second veteran to agree to a new deal in the last two weeks.
