I don't think so.

And regarding the SAM, with Cardinals it wasn't the key player. I'm hoping it's Curry with less weight.

IS SLB THE KEY TO THIS DEFENSE???

Been looking over this 4-3 Under Defense and the more I look at it the more I believe The SLB is the Key play-maker of this D. He's the one that they will move around and use in a bunch of different ways to get to the QB aswell as drop back into coverage when needed.

That means since I dont believe we have that guy on the roster now, whoever we draft most likely in the 1st Round(Jarvis,Jordan,or Mingo,etc) that guy I believe will be the key to our Defense. He will have to be our Von Miller, the guy who needs to be accounted for on every snap which will free up plays for all the other guys even when he's not getting to the QB.

I don't even know who seattles SAM is so is it the most important?

I thought Seattle's SAM was Chris Clemons? Or is he the predator/LEO?

KJ Wright?

The fans would a more pass oriented SAM, since Wright is more of a 4-3 OLB.

Our D isn't going to be exactly like Seattle and if you look over the D more closely it makes more sense to find a big-time pass rusher as the SLB, that could be the X-factor to this D. With the other from 4 guys accounted for the SLB you could move around and use in different exotic looks. That guy will most likely be freed up to go one on one where ever he lines up. I really think this guy(if we get the right player) could be the key to the D.

Seattle has used Bruce Irvin as their Sam in pass rushing situations.

You sure? I thought he just replaced Clemons, but you might be right since Red Bryant was in on a lot of passing situation and he's not a pass rusher at all.

Ya earlier in the year on 3rd down passing situations they had both Irvin & Clemons on the field together. Bruce played SLB on 3rd downs for them.

Quote:
Bill Davis ran the 4-3 Under while in Arizona. Here is how that would look:

* Predator (RDE)
* 3-tech DT
……………………….WILB (playmaker)
* NT
……………………….SILB (thumper)
* 5-tech DE
* SAM (LB/DE hybrid)
Quote:
Because the Predator is in a 2-point stance, the defense looks like a 3-4. It isn’t a 3-4 because the roles are different.

The 3-tech DT is supposed to get upfield and be disruptive.

The NT is actually called a “nose shade”. He gets on one side of the C and is supposed to get penetration, not just eat up blocks.

The SAM is going to rush 70 percent of the time and cover 30 percent of the time. He’s not just a DE. He must be athletic and solid in coverage.

I think an athlete like Dion Jordan would be awesome in this system if it functions well. He's versatile enough to play a number of positions in the 4-3 under IMO.

Agreed. He could play either predator or SAM and possibly WILB

So it looks like a 3-4 defense, functions like a 3-4 defense, but is technically a 4-3 defense?... Or...? Man this 4-3 under has me confused.

Is this how our line would look from left to right today? In parentheses I put what kind of role they'd play and then how they'd line up, not sure if I'm right though as like I said I don't completely understand this 4-3 under.

Trent Cole (3-4 OLB/LEO/7-tech)
Fletcher Cox (3-4 DE/3-tech)
Antonio Dixon (4-3 NT/1-tech)
??? (4-3 DE/6-tech)

Big difference is the NT...in a traditional 3-4 that's a Wilfork/Hampton wide body to eat up blocks. In the Under its a shade NT (half in the gap, half over the Center) and he penetrates the line

The Left End plays the 5 technique and would be a 3-4 DE type. Red Bryant and Calais Campbell are perfect examples of this.

Also Dixon wasn't on a team for a reason most of last year, I'm not buying him as a real nose.
