Son of Frank "Grimey"Grimes, arch enemy of Homer Simpson, Brent Grimes will be a Free Agent in the NFL this offseason. Despite coming off a missed season due to injury, he wants to be paid like a #1 corner, stating "I'm worth as much as the guy they signed to play alongside me in ATL". |
Well then... he wants Robinson money... we can actually afford that if you guys are up for it. |
Id rather not for this game. Robinson money and no achilles dont match | yeah, thing is we can afford it that's why I suggest it. _________________

Avril is a no for Dumervill money ($10m / season)
Grimes is a no for Robinson money ($9.5m / year)
Honestly, the only one that I might consider is Long at $10m per (Joe Thomas).
We've had our hands tied by re-structuring Robinson, who we now can't cut. We should pass on all of tier 1 and use our time to craft good pitches for the tier 2 targets.
---
All of the above just IMO - it is a collaborative effort. For example, I would not bid on Freeney, but it seems the sentiment is that we should go for it. Therefore we should pitch to him, but obviously I will not write it.
Scar - should I start working up the Baker/Miller pitches? _________________

Thing is if we can bring back Grimes, and after the first year, cut Robinson and fit Grimes salary into that hole. I could keep the first year hit around 7M with my structure of the deal. Especially since we can go 10% lower than Robinson.
Long at that is a bad idea. and yes, please start Baker/Miller and I'll spruce them up when you are done. _________________

I think that is kind of stupid that they are projecting Grimes as a guy who wants to be one of the highest paid corners on the market. I can't think of anyone who would try that after a major injury.
I would like him back but at a somewhat reasonable price. _________________

All cap situations aside, id like to point out what grimes can bring to the team...
Headed into this season, we had what should have been the best secondary in the league. Two of the best cover corners on the outside with a hard nosed thumper in Robinson and an surprising rise for McClain in the slot. And two of the best safties in the league top it off.
The move of Robinson to the slot would be huge in the fact that he would be someone to fear over the middle (not to mention the fact that he can get lost on the outside...) and could also help in covering tight ends.
I think with that secondary, if we could add some pass rush and linebacker depth, this would be a top notch defense next year. Add in another offseason between Julio and Matt, a big guard moving Konz to center, another guy to rotate at RB, and a serviceable tight end... As an opposing player, I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the state of Georgia next year. _________________

Thanks I feel like an idiot.

Tier 1 FA's have been announced:
WR Greg Jennings - Miami Dolphins
WR Dwayne Bowe - New England Patriots
WR Wes Welker - yet to be announced
OT Jake Long - Arizona Cardinals
OG Andy Levitre - Dallas Cowboys
DE Cliff Avril - Shark Tanked
OLB James Harrison - yet to be announced
CB Brent Grimes - Denver Broncos
Tier 2 FA's are available now.
RB Steven Jackson - tylerdouglass
TE Heath Miller - Desperado82
OT Sebastian Volmer - CWood21
OT Sam Baker - CWood21
LB Connor Barwin - TheVillain112
DE Dwight Freeney - TheVillain112
CB Sean Smith - drd23
CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie - mse326
These are the guys we are looking at in this tier. Honestly, I don't like either corner. Freeney is a guy I want, Barwin is too. Bringing back Baker would be nice and so would bringing in Miller. So we'll at least get some offers in for Freeney, Baker and Miller. _________________
