Why do you guys like him so much? |
Because he's a great coach. People like to look at stats and see our secondary performed bad, but they fail to see the amount of injuries.
Walton took Chris Houston from a castaway to a borderline #1 CB. He renewed Eric Wright's career. He got our 5th round rookie ready to start. Our 3rd round rookie was also ready to start. He made a UDFA into a good #3. He also helped develop Delmas into a very good (but fragile) safety. He also helped turn a CB into a decent SS. Also, when our starters were all in there and healthy, they played great. Point is, he takes not so good players and makes them good and then knows how to use them properly. He's also been a very committed coach. Give him some safeties, and you guys should have a dominant defense if you can keep that front 7 together.

The reasons have already been said. He made our not so talented secondary adequate. He made Eric Wright a rich man. He tapped into Chris Houstons potential when nobody in Atlanta could do so. He's the reason why we drafted the project corners in last year's Draft. Mayhew and co. had faith in him to make them good.

I'm really digging this hire man! Everything I have read seems really good so far. Our secondary could make huge jumps this next season...given we do not retain Dahl.

Love the hire, he brought the best out of Detroit's secondary. Now let's see what he can do with Trumaine Johnson, Janoris Jenkins, etc.
