Why would he not be offered a contract? He's still relatively young and was just named to the pro bowl. It's not like he's going to break the bank. |
Because we want to improve on our secondary coverage? _________________

Agreed. He's getting around 4 mill this year. I could see him wanting a raise after making the pro bowl.
I would rather have a coverage safety and let dashon come up and lay the wood. Kinda similar to Seattle with kam and Thomas. _________________ ***WE RUN THE WEST!***

whitner has a year left on his contract |
And likes it in SF so he won't be going anywhere. Not unless some other team gives him a boat load of cash. Which won't happen. We need a WR, CB or DL in the first round. We have too many safeties as it is. Goldson, Whitner, McBath, Spillman, and Robinson. You really want A.J. to be our #2 WR or Tramaine Brock to be our 5th corner? |
Whitner will go elsewhere if he's not offered a contract... the NFL isn't like a porn site... there's no automatic renewal at the end of a contract...
Feels like I mentioned too much... |

You understand that being named to the probowl is nothing more than a popularity contest, right? He's a very good player, but the probowl label is very overrated.
So, why wouldn't he be offered a contract? Something's gotta give. We can't pay everyone. What if we extend Whitner next year, then Tarell Brown, then Culliver, then extend Justin, than Aldon... and that's just on defense. Because we also have Crabtree to renew, and Kap eventually, and Hunter, and Bruce, and we'll extend or replace Manningham, and re-sign Iupati and Davis and a center, etc... is it really possible to sign everyone? Whitner seems like a guy that can be sacrificed for the overall benefit of the team. That's all. If money and cap room wasn't a concern, we should sign just everyone we can. _________________
