Players who I don't thing Stand a Chance in Hell of coming Back:
Coleman, Kenyon DE
Jenkins, Mike CB
Jones, Felix RB
Poppinga, Brady LB
Players Who I think are virtual locks to come back:
Ladouceur, L.P. LS
Sims, Ernie LB
I also think Spencer will be back. Much to my dismay. I am torn on the rest. I can see KO coming to at least Training Camp, which would also make me a sad panda. _________________

if u wanna go by the moves Dallas has made in the past...Spence and Tree will be back...i know...really? But think about it...it doesnt make sense to normal Dallas fans, but the GM is the GM...and he is far form normal...and no moves made on the OL except a draft pick or two in the 4th and 5th rounds...u know...guys to take up roster space till they r cut a few years from now...

And an expensive one. It makes no sense to overpay a career long underachiever who only performed well in a contract year and would only be considered a moderate fit in a 4-3 defense. That has "horrible signing" written all over it. _________________

I can definetely agree with this. It has never really made since to me how teams, whether it be ours or anothers, give players who are 29 or even 30+ these long-term, high-risk low-reward contracts. Excluding QB's, these players are either at or on the downside of their prime, and likely aren't ever going to match the production they gave you in their contract year. It seems like they're paying these players for their contract year stats, not realizing that 4-5 years from now, there's slim to no chance that that same production will be matched. Btw, loving this board already. Just browsing this forum over the past few days has me excited to talk to Cowboys fans that know what they're talking about . |

Welcome. I just can't justify signing him to a long contract, either. If we desperately need him for another year, I would rather we franchise him. |

Id be disappointed if ernie sims isnt on the roster come next season. He is exactly the kind of player that fits the tampa 2. We will need linebackers that run around and get to the football. The goal of the tampa 2 is to create turnovers and if an underneath pass is allowed the goal is to have several defensive players there to tackle the receiver. Sims can fly around and get to the ball like we need our linebackers to. Unfortunately with lee and carter healthy, there wont be many snaps for him. Unless the coaching staff feels he can play SLB from time to time(just tryin to get the best players on the field), or he is used in special packages.
EDIT: Posted this in another thread as well. Maybe Sims could get the job outright.

| Quote: | | Before we say that Sims is too small (6-0, 230), I want to point out that Jonathan Bales did some excellent research on the average size of Monte Kiffin's defensive players in Tampa Bay from 2003-2008. According to Bales, the average strong-side linebacker stood in at 6-1, and weighed 235 pounds. So by looking over the average size of Kiffin's Sam linebacker, Sims would be pretty close to an ideal fit. |
