I've noticed a few bigger name players have been released today. Could be some decent "prove yourself" contracts here:
OG- Stephen Peterman (DET)
DE- Frostee Rucker (CLE)
DE- Kyle Vanden Bosch (DET)
WLB- Michael Boley (NYG)
The only one I might not mind is Peterman. He's 31 so he's not too old. Could be some decent depth. He's started the last 3 years for DET.
I thought about Boley but he's just like Henderson....he cant cover.
Let me know what you guys think. _________________

I've heard quite the opposite in the case of Boley...the guy is like 225 lbs so my guess is he's a speedy type.
Jason La Canfora made a list of potential big name players that were rumored to be getting cut and there were definitly some big names. I doubt the Vikings will really go for any of them, but it could create a domino effect on some of the other FA on the market.
Example: Boldin gets cut, signs with the Dolphins. The domino effect is that the liklihood that they would be willing to pay Greg Jennings top money becomes lessened. Thus opening a door for our beloved Vikes.
I have no idea if any of this speculation is realistic, but its been a long day |

I think that cutting and resigning Charlie Johnson to less would be better than Peterman, what all the Lions fans have said in his thread about getting cut is that he's undisciplined and not all that talented, not someone you want to see on the field basically. He'll make a number of dumb pre-snap penalties that just kill teams. _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews

Honestly none of those names look very attractive.
but then, they did get cut for a reason.
I mean, Boley seems like an oppurtunistic player, but from what I've heard, he's really hit or miss. He's at the end of his prime too.
I really don't think he, or anyone else on this list will help this team. _________________

You should add Ahmad Bradshaw to the list now, the Giants are going to release him _________________

Considering that we'll need two LBs, I don't think it would hurt to at least give him a chance. |

Well, from the looks of it, we'll lose Brinkley, McKenzie, Henderson and Larry Dean. So we'll need some help.
but I can't see us picking him up, only to draft a guy in round 2 or 3 to replace him. Why put a alot of money into a backup?
because I think there is a good chance we look at Kevin Minter in round 1 as a MLB and Arthur Brown in round 3 as an OLB. _________________

I highly doubt that he'd demand top tier money. We could probably get him or another LB at a decent price. We should at least bring in one veteran LB, considering we'll be likely to draft more than one. |

Peterman is terrible and really isnt an upgrade over both OGs.
Boley interests me,he would be a cheap alternative to Henderson. _________________

I would say that Chris Canty is intriguing but he cannot seem to stay healthy and he will be 31 during the next season. However, he could be a decent 1-2 year option for one of the interior line positions. _________________

Id consider Canty if the Vikings cut Kevin Williams and Canty would come in at under $1.5M
Otherwise, he doesnt fit this defense as long as Kevin Williams is here. combined with his age and health concerns, I dont think he helps us much. _________________

His age is a huge concern as well. The Vikings are trying to get younger and having another 2 year stopgap log jamming a position isn't going to help the organization get any better. _________________

According to Rotoworld Boley cant cover or play the run. Hence why he was benched this year _________________

Boley wasnt that bad in coverage, that has been one of his strengths over his career. He did have 3 ints and 4 deflections just last year. Seems like he has good instincts at being around the football. _________________
