Darbsk, we're on the same page but then you go on to mention he could have been great if kept in one system or situation. In the modern NFL, having one dimensional ability goes against the definition of great.

Kelly could have been more effectively used by us, but never great. Ever.

Perhaps 'great' was not a very good choice of words Laughing but IMO he could have made say, a Pro Bowl or two if put in that situation.

Yes, he could've made a pro bowl or two. Heck, didn't he make reserve for two of them?
Pro Bowl = stats, and we could have had more stats from him if used properly. Pass rushing stats that is. There's no disguising he is poor against the run..

I wonder how we had the stats we did against the run this year with him at NT then. The truth is this forum hates him for whatever reason. And the level of hate isn't justified.

With that said, it's the right time to move on. I'd be shocked if he isn't cut.

Ro was the main reason the run defense sucks.

The run D sucked well before Ro.

+1. Excuses. McClain was actually kinda decent vs the run when the DTs didn't leave wide open lanes big enough for cars to drive through. No more UTs playing NT please.

I thought the same until Ro was benched and the run defense got better.

When was he officially benched, Week 15? Did the run D get better, or did we just play weak running teams? In the final 3 weeks we played KC, SD, and CAR. KC is a good running team, but along with SD they were a team we easily shut down earlier in the year w/ Ro, and CAR's RBs were underutilized as usual and havent been a threat in a couple of seasons. We handled (and even flat out shut down) some good RBs throughout the year while McClain was playing: Rice, Richardson, and Charles off the top of my head.

Dont get me wrong, Im not defending that punk, but our run D problems did not fall on him or on any one player. In addition to Ro's play, you have Seymour and Kelly who have been notorious for lacking discipline in the run game since they joined the team, Burris with plenty of rookie moments and missed tackles, and Wheeler who was average.

You got me wrong I'm not just blaming RO. The DT's should have been benched as well .

I gotcha. I was surprised at how much better we were against the run than in past years. Even with the disasterous games against TB and MIA our run D was pretty respectable and at times dominant. Still, we need help all over.
