Thanks Nh.
The RFA tender and franchise tag period has begun.
Or only RFA, I believe, is Fernando Velasco while Kevin Matthews ia an ERFA (meaning we can sign him automatically for the minimum.
IMO, we should place a 2nd round tender on Velasco (will cost $1.927) and sign Matthews for $615,000. _________________

I would agree with this we need to keep them both they were the bright spots on the interior of the oline. _________________

Agreed. Velasco is our future at center and Matthews is a quality backup/spot starter _________________

Also, I think we should start considering possible cut options and/or restructures.
If a player is in the final year they can't be restructured, correct? _________________

Yes.
I'm just going to go ahead and list the names that we should look at cutting, trading or restructuring:
1. Eugene Amano
2. Matt Hasselbeck
3. Steve Hutchinson
4. Mike Otto
5. Babs
6. Lavelle Hawkins _________________

Assuming we're trying to keep this semi-realistic, I would suggest restructuring Steve Hutchinson. Won't save us the save amount of cap room as restructuring CJ, but he's also a player that could very well be asked to restructure based on his cap hit.
Would look something like:
Tennessee Titans Restructuring Steve Hutchinson
Current 2013 #'s:
4,750,000 salary, 1,500,000 prorated signing bonus, 500,000 roster bonus, 6,750,000 cap hit.
Two years remaining on contract
2013 #'s post-restructure
$825,000 salary, $3,462,500 prorated signing bonus, $500,000 roster bonus, $4,787,500
Cap savings of $1,962,500 _________________

Like to see Amano and Babs gone. Possibly Lavelle too because he's useless. _________________

Also, as Stingily has seemingly passed Otto as the third tackle, $1.7 million is an awful lot to be paying a fourth tackle. I'd be shocked if we couldn't resign him for the minimum if we chose to go that route.
And Craig Stevens is another restructure candidate. Would probably save us another million. _________________

Restructuring Hutch and Stevens, releasing Amano, Otto and Hawk would save us 8,623,333. Giving us $27,125,087 in cap room. _________________

Amano is gone.
Matt is probably gone as well, can't have our #2 highest player be the backup QB.
Otto I did notice had a rather high salary.
And I was considering Williams, but Hawkins probably makes more sense.
Hutch I think should be restructured, as you mentioned.
Washington would free up a ton of room, but he's been pretty much the reliable receiver over the years, so we need to maintain him.
Babs is probably gone as well. _________________

Also, we can extend/attempt to extend one player and/or tag a player. Assuming we go ahead with the above moves, we will probably be sitting with a little over $30 million in cap room.
The only two free agents that we have, IMO, that would be worth resigning are Jared Cook and Rob Bironas. Not sure what to do about either of them though. Bironas would be much easier to resign and we could probably ink him for right around 2-2.5 million cap hit this year, but that leaves Cook with either a tag or taking our shot in free agency (where he will almost certainly be overpaid significantly). _________________

Just going to throw a trade idea out there that I believe would be accepted if we offered it:
Titans get: Tramon Williams, Packers third round pick (#90), Maybe ask them to throw in a later round pick if need be.
Packers get: Titans third round pick (#72) and Titans fourth round pick
Unfortunately, we probably won't have time to actually make this deal as Green Bay appears to be ready to make a trade with New Orleans for slightly lesser value, but if Ruskie and/or some other staff members see this in the next 8 hours or so, it's something to consider.
Tramon, though not coming off his best season, would be able to man the outside corner spot opposite McCourty and would allow us to use Verner much like we did Finny in 2011. I'd be in favor of it, however obviously it would be up to Ruskie.
Certainly doesn't come cheap and he's not ultra young, so this isn't a deal that is going to make or break us, just one of the first reasonable prices I've seen on a player that is a solid starter. _________________

Shot the Packers GM a PM so we'll see what their response is. Haven't made an official offer yet though. _________________

Matt is probably gone as well, can't have our #2 highest player be the backup QB. - I would try to restructure Matt because he is a very solid backup and if Locker goes down we need someone, unless there is a QB we are targeting through FA or the draft. Plus there are rumblings that he may restructure IRL so that would give us grounds to do so as well.
Otto I did notice had a rather high salary.- Get rid of him we can resign him for the minimum or sign someone else
And I was considering Williams, but Hawkins probably makes more sense. - Cut Hawk, we will need to add at WR anyway so no need to keep him and his huge contract for a 5th reciever
Hutch I think should be restructured, as you mentioned.- Agreed
Washington would free up a ton of room, but he's been pretty much the reliable receiver over the years, so we need to maintain him.- Maybe restructure and extend his deal? He is only under contract for this year and next, he is still young I would have no problem extending him for 4 more years.
Babs is probably gone as well.- Cut him unless the market is bleak. |
