There are lots of things our staff does well. But let's face it, without talented guys and without the ability to get the most our of guys, all the x's and o's don't mean a whole lot. I read an article quoting Jim's dad as telling before the draft a couple years ago that the guy we really wanted out of all the QBs that year was Kap. So first of all we got it right in terms of knowing which of those guys had the most talent and biggest upside.
Second, as much as we wanted him we still took Aldon with our first pick. Most everyone was surprised with that pick. But we got the evaluation of his capabilites right too. What's more, it shows that we knew everyone else would have Dalton rated higher than Kap. As soon as he went, then we immediately moved up to get our QB of the future. Then, we also looked at one of the better pass rushers in the country - Miller, and somehow saw a future great FB in him. A leap which hardly any other staff would make.
One more example - while most of us here were talking about trading for a G, or drafting one, or maybe moving Davis to G and putting Boone in at tackle, our staff rightly saw that Boone could be one of the better G's in the league - an unheard of assumption given that he's 6'8". And of course part of that was seeing that Davis had the skills and was progressing enough to turn into one of the best RTs int he league, maybe the best.
All in all the way our staff has evaluated and utilized talent is not merely good or very good, it is truly exceptional - just about as good as anyone has ever done it. _________________

Most definitely, they take risks other organizations do not, and it has paid off. Don't forget, they didn't listen to anybody when it pertained to Culliver as well. Some felt he was a 6th round talent, and some even felt safety would be his position at the next level. Switching Boone to guard and having faith in Davis as been one of the BIGGEST reasons for our success.
