This is my first post but I have watched the Browns all season and I have really noticed that Kamerion Wimbley is a STUD. But from the research I have done I noticed that Wimley's rookie year is identical to Shawne Merriman's. Plus Merriman had a good supporting cast and Wimbley has been a one man defense this year. I am assuming that Wimbley gets double teamed a lot more than Merriman did last year. But anyways, will Wimbley have as good of a career as Merriman? Merriman has established himself as one of the best defensive players in the NFL (if not the best). Last, I am wondering why Wimbley has not gotten the credit as Merriman did last year. Merriman went to the pro bowl and the ESPN crew talked about him a lot during the year. Wimbley has not gotten any public attention at all.

Shawne Merriman's Rookie Year Stats
YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF
2005 SDG 15 57 43 14 5 10 2

Kamerion Wimbley's Rookie Year Stats
YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF
2006 CLE 15 59 42 17 0 10 1

Yes. Merrimen did this with an above average defense, and other athletes at LB to help him out. Jamal Williams, Luis Castillo, Igor Olshansky, Donnie Edwards? These guys were all pro bowl caliber players in the front seven, that made Merrimen who he is.

If Wimbley can do that, without all of the surrounding talent, he can be a Merrimen type player. Wimbley needs to add a little more bulk. He is super ripped, but he doesn't have the bulk to provide a bull rush the way Merrimen does. Also, I think Wimbley may even be a better athlete than Merrimen, despite the size of Merrimen's cannons attached to his shoulders. Wimbley is the better speed rusher, but Merrimen is the better explosive and powerful distrupter. Nobody can block either of the two one on one. Wimbley will only get better, and he will be a multiple pro bowler for years, IMO.

Yeah, I think he will. Very good player and a long term piece of the Browns puzzle.

I would agree with this except for two things...

1. He plays for the Cleveland Browns
2. He is a Cleveland Browns 1st Round Pick

you also have to take into consideration taht merriman is juiced and probably was all last year. so that could explain the difference in size and possibly a little more athletic ability

Wimbley will be just as good or even better than Merrimen by the end of next season. He is just as good as merrimen now, he just doesnt have the big frame that Shawn does. Plus, Merrimens production could fall off somewhat now that he isnt all juiced up anymore.

Man to see this guy with some sorta protection infront of him would be phenominal. He's progressed very well this season, and has totally suprised me. I really didn't expect so much production in his first year, and I can't wait to see him the rest of the way.

As for the question.....Yes for stats, and hopefully yes for probowls b/c he has done very well so far. Like I said, he has totally stunned me with his production.....He hopefully will be in the running for DROY, but our defense as a whole might taint that for him, and that's too bad.
Let's put some caveats into these overly-optimistic statements.

IF Kamerion Wimbley...

Stays Healthy
Doesn't get into trouble
AND
Continues to progress

He will be a multiple-time pro-bowler and a defensive stud.

I'd say Merriman was better after 1 year (remember, he was benched 1 game and didnt start before week 5...due to his hold-out), but this guy is just a cheater.

Cheaters never win (except for the ProBowl selection and the D-MVP race...)

Welcome Brownie 37.

Yes, I think Kam is that good.

Savage got us a player. Great choice and great to Kam for being a great player.
