Cleveland Free Agents retained
Ben Watson and Phil Dawson
All RFA's are tendered except Norwood, he walks.
Free Agent Acquisitions:
Glover Quin FS
Team: Houston Texans
Age / DOB: (27) / 1/15/1986
Ht / Wt: 6'0' / 209
College: New Mexico
DS Comment: A converted cornerback, Quin has played well in his new safety the past 2 years. He was pretty good in 2012, so he deserves a nice contract from the Browns.
Keenan Lewis CB
Team: Pittsburgh Steelers
Age / DOB: (26) / 5/17/1986
Ht / Wt: 6'0' / 208
College: Oregon State
DS Comment: Lewis played pretty well in his first season as a starter. 2012. He allowed only 3 TD's vs his coverage. He likes the idea of playing for Horton a familiar face and system he likes.
Brian Hartline WR
Team: Miami Dolphins
Age / DOB: (26) / 11/22/1986
Ht / Wt: 6'2' / 199
College: Ohio State
DS Comment: Hartline made a name for himself by catching 12 balls for 253 yards and a touchdown vs. Arizona. I am betting Horton rembers this and mentions it to Chud. Hartline is also a a big fan of Norv Turner as he was a Cowboy fan as a little boy in Canton Ohio.
Louis Vasquez G
Team: San Diego Chargers
Age / DOB: (25) / 4/11/1987
Ht / Wt: 6'5' / 335
College: Texas Tech
DS Comment: Vasquez follows Chud and Turner to Cleveland as he will receive more money and still get to play in the same system under the same coach.
Chad Rinehart G
Team: Buffalo Bills
Age / DOB: (27) / 5/4/1985
Ht / Wt: 6'5' / 321
College: Northern Iowa
DS Comment: A Big body road grading guard that gets lost in the offseason shuffle around Levitre and Byrd.
Trade: DQ to Dallas for a 3rd.
1 Ezekiel Ansah, DE/OLB, BYU
Height: 6-6. Weight: 270.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
DS Comment: Horton has said he wanted big guys that can run and Ansah coming from BYU's 34 certainly fits the bill with his track back ground as well.
3a John Simon, DE/OLB, Ohio State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 257.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
DS Comment: Simon is moved to ILB as a 2 down mike back and someone that CAN stack and shed guards at the NFL level, in fact just may bench press them. He is also a big guy that can run ala Ray Horton's comments.
3b Margus Hunt, 34DE, SMU
Height: 6-8. Weight: 280.
Projected 40 Time: 4.83
DS Comment: Hunt is a freak of an athlete and Horton will have tons of fun with him. Move over JJ Swatt as one of Hunt's specialties is knocking down pass's.
4 Travis Long, OLB, Washington State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 256.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
DS Comment: Experienced 34 OLB that adds depth to a position that had little to none.
5 Ben Cotton, TE, Nebraska
Height: 6-6. Weight: 265.
Projected 40 Time: 4.75
DS Comment: Experienced Blocking TE that has descent hands as well.
6 Kyle Juszczyk, Harvard
Height: 6-0. Weight: 252.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
DS Comment: Juszczyk from Harvard is an ideal H-back/fullback candidate. He is impressive as a lead blocker on the inside run game and has decleated linebackers in the run game. He is a fine receiver out of the backfield or as a wing. He has soft hands, runs good routes and is physical after the catch.
7 Quinn Sharp, P/K, Oklahoma State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 205.
DS Comment: Sharp has averaged 46.3 yards per punt with 12 downed inside the 20 last year.
I fleshed out the front 7 with "Big guys that can run" for Horton to play with. Ansah Simon and Hunt on the field at the same time would be FUN to see IMO. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!

I like your free agency but if you plan to extend Mack and Ward you may not have enough money. I don't think the Brown's spend the whole 48.9 million anyway. I'd say Brown's will spend about 33-40 million. Ansah might be drafted to high. The rest could work out. Moving Simon to m.l.b. is different. _________________ browns and indian fan 7272

Make and Ward are free agents in 14. There would be enogh cap space in 14 to take care of them. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!

A lot of boom or bust but not out of the realm of possibility. I think taking both G off and replacing with Levitre would make it a lot better. _________________ Trent Richardson please!!! |

I'm confused.... Did Horton or anyone from that pressed say they wanted all big guys that can run?
From I'm reading it said "big men that can run and little men that can hit" .... Sounds more like a mantra for he defensive attitude than a height weight chart for selecting players... _________________

I signed to little guys that can hit and drafted the big guys that can run.
That and I was just trying to go outside the box a bit. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!

Not a knock a Levitre I just went with guards that I have seen fit the Chud/Turner system and IMO they are the big ones.
IE Ryan Tucker one of my favorite Browns is a good example of a Brown that Chud/Turner would want IMO. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!

I don't know where you got the idea that that Lewis liked Horton. I actually remember him not liking Horton and when Carnell Lake became the coach Lewis was saying something to the effect that Lake was a breath of fresh air. Lewis struggled with Horton's coaching.
I am not saying his signing with the Browns is impossible, but I don't think it will be because of Lewis' love affair with Horton. It will be because of $. _________________

By the way, I am intrigued with your switch to the 3-4 this year Browns fans. I think it could be cool. Didn't you guys play the 3-4 back when Belichek was your coach? I seem to remember Pepper Johnson there.
By the way, are you guys going to new jerseys. I still think your dark brown on dark brown uni's are the second best in NFL. _________________
