I'm more of a capologist with NBA salary caps and structures compared to NFL.

Could we extend Winfield for another year on top this coming season, and turn the salary into gareenteed base (with a lower dollar amount each year)? Say 5M + 5M gareenteed?

Is this allowed under the CBA? This is what I meant, more of an extend/restructure.

If we extend him then we would be on the hook for his salary in 2014 should he retire. However, it would lower his cap hit this year.

He's said he wants to play 15 years in the NFL. Next year will be year 15 so I don't think he'd be up for signing an extension

That how teams get stuck ie kevin williams

Kevin Williams had his best year in 3 years this year, how exactly is that being "stuck"? He's been and still is a valuable leader.

Did u jus become a vikings fan? He had 30 tackles tying for his worst total in his career, with only 2 sacks 1 of his worst yrs in his career

There are lies, there are damn lies, and there are statistics. He plays less plays now, so the stats are going to go down. If statistics were the sole determinant of how well a player plays, Tarvaris Jackson would still have been the Vikings QB in '09 because of that 95.4 QB rating he had in '08.

Pro Football Focus had Kevin Williams as 1 of the top 10 DTs in the entire NFL this season.

Would I / the Vikings make this trade? Yes.

Would the Jaguars make this trade? No.
