Great leg no doubt.
He needs to learn not to blast every one 5 yards into the end zone. Doesn't help the team out one bit. If this guy could learn directional punting and how to pull his leg strength back when needed then he'll be great. Otherwise, he's a Lechler lite. I didn't see him drop one within the 5. |
True but we don't know what they were working on.

This. There is more craft to punting the football than just length.
As you saw in preseason, he tried to drill every punt and as a result shanked a couple really ugly ones.
Punting is a consistency game. Consistently making good contact and giving your gunners time to cover. Also need to be able to kick them inside the 10 and kill them.
Directional punting is a thing of the past really. It's all about spin now. The corner coffin is a dead art.

Come on man, be serious.
There's really nothing a punter can be working on in a vid like this, other than distance for show. There's no practice for a punter where the guy is not trying to punt within the 10 yard line. And if they want to work on distance, the guy can just move back.
I think you're really stretching this one for no reason. I don't see a legit reason for a punter not be aiming for the 5 on any punt he ever kicks, ever. Only reason is to make a youtube vid to show off hang time and distance.
