I had Chad Bumphis is one of my earlier mocks. I like his frame and speed combo.
Emory Blake just runs ridiculous routes. I wish we had a 6th round pick because I feel he would slide in there very well. Good receiver that was hampered by poor QB play at Auburn. _________________

Depends on the compensation for Jefferson. Prior to the Jefferson trade, the Vikings had 2 6th round picks. _________________

Oh I didn't know the compensation for Jefferson was revealed already. My source still had it as undetermined.
A few trade backs could have the Vikings with more picks. The Vikings have been pretty aggressive with trading in recent memory and I could see it being the same way this year. _________________

I saw that Nigel Malone (KState CB) got a big pick-6. How did he look otherwise? He's a guy I really like with one of our later picks. |

Malone was kinda of just another guy out there for majority of the game.
He practiced rather poorly as well. _________________

This may not sit well with some folks, but I could see us drafting a RB in the later rounds.
With Toby Gerhart being a free agent after next year, it makes little sense to lock him up to a big deal with Adrian in front of him. And it also makes little sense for him to stay when he has a chance to be a top back somewhere, or at least a goal-line back. And all we have behind him is Asiata, who I don't really trust on for more than special teams.
One guy I'd look at is Kerwynn Williams. Despite his size (5'8", 196 lbs), he reportedly performed the best of all RBs during pass-blocking drills at Shrine Game practices. He also is a good pass-catcher, and has experience as both a kick and punt returner.
That skillset is exactly what we need from our 3rd RB, and he could then transition to top backup if Gerhart leaves. He also went to Utah State, the same school as Seattle rookie RB Robert Turbin.
CBS Sports currently projects him as a 7th or UDFA. _________________

I see nothing wrong with drafting a late round RB, for three reasons:
1) Gerhart's deal is up in 2014
2) The Vikes need a true third down receiving back and a player who can be a weapon in the screen game (which has largely been nonexistent)
3) Potential punt returner and kick returner
i would ideally like to add a 5-8 to 5-10 200 pound type RB who can return kicks and replace Matt Asiata. |

That's Kerwynn Williams.
Here's Williams this year vs. San Jose State: http://youtu.be/c5mb1A2xGbk
15 carries, 176 yards, 3 TDs (4 catches, 30 yards). Against the 24th ranked scoring defense in FBS, and a team that finished the year 11-2. SJSU's other loss was against Stanford.
A little news blurb from after yesterday's Shrine Game:
Quote: | After the East cut it to 7-3 courtesy of a 48-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis late in the second half, Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 37 yards. Two plays later, the West was in the end zone for a 14-3 lead.
“Returning that kick, everyone was on their man, which allowed for a big hole,” Williams said.
Williams also returned one punt for eight yards and fair caught another one. The all-Western Athletic Conference first-teamer enjoyed being back on special teams, a place where he excelled early on during his USU career.
“I enjoyed it, just every opportunity to show something else you can do,” Williams said. “... I can still catch punts and still return kicks.”
Yes he can.
Being a versatile player is something that should help Williams in his quest to make an NFL roster.
“I basically just learned that you have to be a complete player,” said Williams, when asked what he learned from the scouts. “To play in the NFL, you have to do a little bit of everything.” |

Kerwynn Williams would be an interesting name to watch.
Anyone else think of Sherwin Williams with that name? |

I like Bumphis if the Vikes trade Harvin.
Jasper Collins is another player that is growing on me at WR. |

Williams is a guy who was probably a 5th rounder but elevated himself out of that range based on his practice and play during shrine week. He was the only back that was lauded for his pass protection during the week.
Combine that with his obvious physical talent and he could have bumped himself into the top 100 picks. _________________

Also, Arthur Brown is on the roster for the game, but didn't get measured for some reason. |
