Now the Super Bowl has to be Ravens vs 49ers with Cundiff missing a 40 yard FG in the closing seconds that could win 49ers the game, but it's wide left and the Ravens are Super Bowl champs!! Hahaha... That would be awesome! Or as a kick in the nuts to the Ravens, he makes a 60 yard FG for the win to take the Super Bowl from them, lol.

Why? The kick Cundiff missed last season wouldn't have won Baltimore the game, it only would have tied it. Why does no one remember this?

Is this the equivalent of the Jets Quarterback battle, just for kickers instead?

The last thing a team wants to worry about heading into the playoffs is whether they can trust their kicker. I hope we don't see another special teams meltdown.

If Cundiff ever gets onto the field for the 49ers, this will have been a terrible move.

He will miss kicks, and the likelihood is that he'll miss a kick that costs the 49ers a playoff game.

But if he's just used as a threat and that gets Akers kicking properly again, then no harm, no foul.

Just motivation for Akers, this will light a fire and hopefully focus him a little more.

@AdamSchefter
San Francisco 49ers today announced they have waived K Billy Cundiff.

Gone after not even one missed (or made) FG.
