Im not sure what consensus is on McCoy and Weeden but if Norv Turner comes in to Cleveland, would you guys be opposed to bringing Alex Smith in? They have worked well together in the past, Alex really turned the corner under just one season with Turner and kinda regressed afterwards until the past year or so ago. With Kaepernicks emergence, he will probably bolt San Fran for another Starting gig.

If i remember correctly there were alot of Browns fans who wanted him if the niners would have taken Aaron Rodgers but they settled on Frye instead. Hes definitely looked like hes ready to read a team and he might even still be younger than both McCoy and Weeden while still having a couple years more NFL starting experience than them both. How do you guys feel about this?

Alex Smith now will cost $10m cap & conditional pick that could be in the 700 pt range. If we were closer to having a complete roster I would say yes. But reality is Alex Smith can not win games. He is a very efficient game manager & overall I like him. I wish we could get a QB on the current roster to his level.

This draft IMO has 5+ Alex Smiths

Geno Smith
Matt Barkley
Landry Jones
Mike Glenon
Tyler Bray

Now I dont mean they play like Smith. But we are 2 offseasons 1 if we are lucky from the Playoff & 3 from making a serious push/runfor a SB title.

I dont think you trade a 1st round pick for a career journeyman level QB who just get benched by a recent 2nd round pick. Also 49ers have talented people all over the O from top to bottom.

Alex Smith would not be as good as he is now in Cleveland.

Plus I would rather see what Norv could do with what we have.

hell if were going to bring in a QB for Chud/Norv system I rather take Vick over Smith. Vick actually has an arm that can threaten defenses with the deep ball unlike Smith.

but in reality I rather just keep Weeden

BocaRatonBrown1 Thanks for the feedback. I didnt realize that the Browns would have to give up a first rounder to get him. Thats alittle costly but as far as you other comments:

- Like you said he wont win you games, but he is extremely efficient and if you look back to the season he had under Norv Turner he actually won them a a game or 2 ; Most notably the Seattle game where he had his signature game winning drive and everyone thought he was worth the #1 pick.

- A career journeyman? The guy has been a Day 1 starter for i think was the worst team ive ever watched. That 2004-2005 49ers team had no bright spots except for Julian Peterson. The only good offensive player was their FB. He not only handled adversity, losing and being benched with grace but has bounced back from adversity and was having his best season to date before Kaepernick came in. Its not like he was playing poorly and was benched in favor of a scrub, he went out with a concussion and his 2nd Round Backup came in and has been rewriting history books since then. Its not his fault Kaep is a monster.

- No he would not be as good as he was in Cleveland but he would be coming from a pretty similar offense in SF with alot of 2 TE Power Running sets to an offense that he has PROVEN to be capable in. This is as seamless of a transition i can see the Browns making heading into next year.

also thanks for the feedback buno67 but that could be a possibilty. Vick compares to Newton in many ways and Chud obviously knew what to do with Cam. Although i think its a longshot that Vick will ever be a Brown.

Too bad he has no accuracy, terrible decision making and is made of glass...

Vick is scaring nobody at all in any way. 1 good season in the last 10 and he gets so much air time. Michael Vick is a bad Quarterback, plain and simple.

Why would we trade a first round pick for him?

Seriously... Many people thought Flynn would get traded for a 2nd round pick and he was able to just leave without a tag. The real question to ask, why would SF want to tag Smith for 12 Mil in hopes of trading him for a 2nd round pick or better, when I doubt anyone would trade anything more than a 3rd given that he was benched after being completely outshined by a 2nd year 2nd round rookie QB.

Face it

We are gonna roll with Weeden.

Short of some Rookie picked up, no one in FA will be here.

Weeden fits the vertical game that Chud likes.

I'm already on record as saying Weeden will have a big year. Fits Chud's offense perfectly. And he is better than DA, so fell that equals a big year.

To hedge my bet though, that's IF he's on the Browns' roster by TC Laughing

Edit: Also wouldn't be surprised that we make a run at Mallet. But my best guess is Weeden stays and we look to draft QB next year or year after.

Why are we hating on Weeden?

His rookie season reminded me of Peyton Mannings.

In 3 to 5 Years he should be one of the top young QBs in the League. Twisted Evil

This would be awesome. He was my highest rated QB in that draft (higher than Cam Newton) and I had him higher ranked than any QB in 2010 and all QBs in 2012 except Luck.

He actually had another pretty good season during the last 10....unfortunately he was teammates with Adam Sandler during that year.

Yea. Not sure why it would cost a top 6 pick. Laughing

And Vick is AIDS to me and most people I know. Too much baggage, too much of a Jauron, and I dunnoh buno... did yo see him in week 1?

Horrendous.

Just saw on NBC that Smith is likely to ask for release after the Super Bowl.
