We ALL knew he needed to sit |
And he should have. I guess the Jaguars just didn't have the foresight to realize Luke McCown wasn't a very good QB. | No, they didn't have the foresight to know that David Garrard was going to develop a serious back injury. _________________

He said he was going to bring in others to play, through draft, free agency or trade and compete for the spot. His point with Gabbert was that he isn't necessarily a lost cause, and he will have an opportunity to prove himself going forward. There's no "Gabbert is our starter and we are going to make it work" like there was with Mularkey and co. _________________

Yeah. Caldwell really isn't hitching his wagon to Gabbert just by suggesting that he's not a lost cause.
He's just leaving options open. He's not committing to him. And Caldwell is on much different footing from Gene, who was responsible for drafting him in the first place. If Gabbert still doesn't work out...that's on Gene. Caldwell is just here to pick up the pieces of this disastrous 2-14 team, and salvage whatever he possibly can. If he can salvage something out of Gabbert, so much the better...but if he can't, i hardly think Khan will hold that against him.
And i'm sure that Caldwell has made clear to Khan that he's not interested in reaching on another QB in the draft (if that is indeed his plan). And if he was hired with that sort of philosophy, that means Khan is behind him on that, and on board with his 'open competition' in camp concept at the QB position. |

Has he said anything about building around Blaine, of is that just a felling you get? I've heard nothing of a definite plan.
I'm all for giving Blaine an honest shot at the job, which I believe he wins among those already on the roster as well as any potential free agent acquisition not named Flacco. _________________

Everything he has said points to it (well, not to building around "him" necessarily) and word around NFL circles is that Blaine gets at least one more year. _________________

It's good to hear he's willing to give Blaine an honest shot. I hope that's really the case and not just his words being bent. _________________

The more i think about it, the more i like the idea of getting Blaine his '3rd year'. Three seems to be the fair cutoff...if he hasn't run with it by then, time to move on. But his first year wasn't really a full year development-wise, and he missed a good chunk of development time last season as well.
If Gabbert can improve as much going into next year as he appeared to going into last year...maybe we have a decent QB on our hands. _________________

In fact, are we allowed to put a shock collar on Blaine, and give him a good zap every time he checks down inappropriately with a receiver open down field?
what is the NFLPA's position on shock collars? anyone know? ??? _________________
