2013 NFL Draft
Round 1 (4): Jarvis Jones OLB Georgia
-Medical issues aside, Jones is the best player in this class hands down. However, Jax, Oakl, and KC all pass on him because of his Spinal Stenosis. Doctors clear him to play football, but there is always a chance that his career could end shortly. We take a chance on him here at #4 as we go BPA and extensive research by Howie shows that he is worth it. We also take him because of our new defensive coordinator, Richard Smith. Smith was a big part in the development of Von Miller and wants to get his own joker/4-3 rush linebacker similar to Von. Jones is the perfect player for Smith's defense and he very well may creep into that Von/Aldon/Watt class of defenders.
Round 2 (3): Tyler Wilson QB Arkansas
-This pick will come as a bit of a shock to Eagles fans because everyone thinks that a new coach will just be complacent with a 3rd round, 2nd year QB who they had no part in drafting. McCoy, being the quarterback savant that he is, wants his own guy. Lucky for him, Wilson drops to the 2nd round and we scoop him up without hesitation. I see Wilson as a Jay Cutler/Phillip Rivers-esque quarterback. He is a gunslinger who isn't afraid to make tough throws downfield. He is extremely confident and has leadership qualities that you want in a quarterback. Under McCoy, he very well could be the franchise quarterback we've all been wanting.
Round 2 (16 via Mia): DJ Swearinger S South Carolina
-Our secondary is a mess, obviously. Swearinger, in my eyes, is a smaller version of Kam Chancellor. He flies around the field making big plays and isn't afraid to lay the wood on somebody. We get great value here in the 2nd, as I think Swearinger is the best safety in this entire class.
Round 3 (5): Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech
-With Maclin gone and the fact that DeSean is more of a #2 receiver, we need a true #1 WR for our new quarterback. Patton is a big possession receiver (6'2), with great route running and sticky hands. He reminds me a bit of Steve Smith (the other Steve Smith), but when he was actually good in 2009 with the Giants.
Round 4 (4): Quanterus Smith DE Western Kentucky
-Howie continues his trend of taking the best available player, and we steal Smith here in the 4th. If it weren't for his injury, he'd likely be a 1st rounder this year. Smith absolutely abused Alabama's offensive line when they played. He is a physical freak. He will most likely be ready around mid-season of 2013, maybe earlier depending on his recovery. We basically take him to replace Trent Cole.
Round 5 (Conditional Pick): Trey Wilson CB Vanderbilt
Round 6 (4): Alex Hurst OT LSU
QB: Tyler Wilson / Nick Foles / Trent Edwards
HB: LeSean McCoy / Bryce Brown / Chris Polk
TE: James Casey / Brent Celek / Clay Harbor
WR: Quinton Patton / Riley Cooper
WR: DeSean Jackson / Mohammed Massaquoi
Slot WR: Damaris Johnson / Jason Avant
LT: Jason Peters / Alex Hurst
LG: Evan Mathis / Antoine Caldwell
C: Jason Kelce / Dallas Reynolds
RG: Todd Herremans / Danny Watkins
RT: Brandon Albert / Dennis Kelly
DE: Brandon Graham / Phillip Hunt
NT: Glenn Dorsey / Cullen Jenkins
UT: Fletcher Cox / Cedric Thornton
DE: Trent Cole / Vinny Curry / Quanterus Smith
SLB: Jarvis Jones / Casey Matthews
MLB: DeMeco Ryans / Jamar Chaney
WLB: Mychal Kendricks / Akeem Jordan
CB: Derek Cox / Trey Wilson
FS: Jim Leonhard / Nate Allen
SS: DJ Swearinger / Colt Anderson
CB: Brandon Boykin / Brandon Hughes
Slot CB: Curtis Marsh _________________

Even if Jones checks out medically his career may be limited. _________________

Your right, I hate it. Our secondary is worse, and McCoy is out of the picture, and what makes Ben McDaniels qualified as an OC? |

8.5/10. Refreshing to see a mock that is actually realistic on here, rather than one where we sign 5 big name FAs and make 5 trades. Only thing I thought was a bit unrealistic was Wilson falling to the 2nd, I just don't see that happening but I'd cream my jorts if it did. |

Link to McCoy being out of the picture? Nobody has confirmed that.
Why isn't McDaniels qualified? First of all, it'd be McCoy's offense. McDaniels would be working with him (they've worked together before in Denver) . He is currently the offensive assistant coach in TB, where they had the best offensive year that they've had in a long time. McDaniels is a very smart guy, like his brother, and he and McCoy would be great together running an offense.
Our secondary is worse? How so? Cox is an improvement over Nnamdi and DRC by a large margin. Boykin will be fine as the other corner, and marsh, hughes, and wilson are fine at 3, 4, and 5. It's not some stud group of corners, as they are all young and inexperienced (minus Cox). But guess what? We're a rebuilding team! This is the entire point! To draft young guys!
Leonhard was only brought in because he's familiar with McCoy and Richard Smith and will be a stop-gap starter at FS. He is 30 and still has some left in the tank. He is solid in run support. Swearinger, on the other hand, is a stud. I think our secondary is in good shape with this mock.
Obviously this team isn't going to be some playoff team. As RMIB said, this is a more realistic mock. We brought in some depth in FA as well as two good starters (Albert and Cox) and then concentrated on building through the draft.
If you don't like this, then you're going to be thoroughly disappointed this offseason. Because this is a more realistic scenario. We're not going to get a bunch of trades, or sign a bunch of stud free agents. It's a long process. And this offseason would be a big step in the right direction. _________________

What is the cap penalty for cutting Nnamdi? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take effect until 2014, but there definitely would be one. |

This. It's pretty bad, outside of Jarvis, really don't like 1 of your moves. |

Not the most exciting draft, but I agree with others that it is at the very least realistic. This would not make us a contender next year, but I believe that if we did something like this, and if Wilson becomes a good starter then I think this gives us a start similar to the one that we had with Reid. That being said, the secondary would clearly need some work next year, but this is not a bad mock in all honesty. |

I would be okay with grabbing either Wilson, Glannon, or Barkley in the 2nd if their available and the next HC/OC wants one of them. Especially if we pick up another 2nd rounder to use. Although I would rather completely overhaul the secondary in that situation. Similar to what Seattle did with Thomas, Chancellor, and Sherman all in the same draft. Or like the Lito, Lewis, and Brown draft. _________________ 2015 Bird Watch: Byron Maxwell: The new Nnamdi "Toast" Fletcher

People need to realize that we're not going to upgrade every weakness this offseason. That's impossible for this team. But with this offseason, we do a pretty job of addressing most weaknesses and setting ourself up nicely for the next two seasons. With this offseason, and one more good one, we are a contender easily.
On defense, we'd need a FS, maybe one more CB, and maybe some DL depth.
On offense, get more o-line help maybe another WR/TE. Then we are looking very very good. _________________

You don't like signing a 26 year old stud CB who is actually good against the run as well as in coverage?
Or signing one of the best offensive tackles in the game?
Or signing a very versatile, dangerous weapon like Casey?
Or drafting a potential franchise QB in the 2nd round?
Or drafting a stud safety (Swearinger) and signing a decent stop-gap guy at FS in Leonhard?
Or signing a true 4-3 NT in Dorsey who could excel with us?
Man, you are really hard to please, huh? Would you prefer we just go out and throw money at a ton of overrated FAs like in 2011, and just make a ton of unrealistic trades that only benefit us and would never happen in real life? Cause there's plenty of mocks out there for you then. _________________

Not that much. The figure I posted by his name includes the cap hit. _________________
