Guessing the FO was hoping to fetch a late round pick for him which is why he wasn't cut originally. This makes that impossible however. |
That was my first thought. But lets be real. This is the NFL, nobody will care if they think they can get him going on the field. While he has these arrests what really matters to teams on how many league suspensions he has. That is what causes them issues if they get more than 3 I think. McClain has 0. The league justice system who has been easy to pass out sentances the last few years has completly let McClain free. This will help and there must be a reason. |

No team was ever going to trade with his contract. I think the team was simply hoping he would turn it around or at least be competent because I think that story about his contract being voidable and thus reducing his cap his was BS. _________________

He probably would if they were not in such a cap mess.
I was actually think Houston might be a good fit for him. 3-4 and they need ILB. They also get an extra 3rd round pick this season for losing Mario Williams. |

There are a few possible explanations for this. I guess we'll never know. _________________

The only way a team would trade for him is if we were sending a draft pick with him. No way a team takes his contract on and gives us a draft pick. _________________

Even if there was a chance, its gone now. Tbh, I kind of think McClain did this on purpose just to screw us because we screwed him. Why else would he do something stupid like give a fake name? |

Not a dumb charge at all. I use it all the time. Then you find the true name and there are some serious warrants attached. Not saying that is the case here, but it is a misdemeanor that you can be arrested for. If you don't like the charge write your congresman.
Cue the music...

Why would it? I've never heard of player being arrested having his contract voided. _________________

There was an article written on this subject earlier in the year, I think that's what he's referring too. It wasn't this one incident, but it was the sum of all of McClains incidents, including being suspended from the team because he was yelling at, and disregarding essential team functions and duties. Essentially the team can argue that the sum of McClain's actions are a breach in his contract, and we no longer are required to honor it. Much like what Al tried to do with Kiffin, but this time there's justification for it. I think we can win this one too.
Edit: I found it. It was a LaConfora article too, so I'm inclined to think he was correct in his fact finding.

Quote: | McClain is due another $3.6 million in guaranteed money between 2013 and 2014, the remaining years on his deal. But per the language in his contract, the suspension means the Raiders can void the remainder of guaranteed money still owed to him and release him without penalty. Should McClain appeal, the NFLPA would have to make the case that his actions did not amount to "conduct detrimental to the team" in order to recoup that money. |
Between the suspension, his actions, his run ins with the law, his arguments with Allen, his facebook posts about the team, etc etc....I think we've got a pretty open and shut case that his conduct has been "detrimental to the team". _________________ Bah-Weep-Granah-Weep-Nini-Bong
