The title of this thread is misleading. All that's been confirmed is a partial tear of his LCL and inconclusive results on his ACL due to the prior injury. In addition his doctor has made no statement on his likely timeline to return as they don't even know what the recovery will entail yet. |

Whatever the injury, it's not even remotely the end of RG3. His career will be fine. _________________

I just don't want any false encouragment right now. We're all waiting for some definitive information that will determine the course of the team over the next year --or more.. !
Let's just sit tight and wait to see what the doctors say. |

Well considering there was a trainer on the radio this morning that specializes in knee rehab who said Robert will be the same exact guy after he's recovered from surgery I'm now feeling much better... _________________ Dashing is the greatest FF poster ever |

Reading this article doesn't make me feel good...

Any time you have a second insult to a knee, it's less favorable than the first, and having another procedure is less ideal. I don't know, when he had his original reconstruction, whether they used his patellar tendon (to repair the ACL). But if they did use it, obviously they can't use it again, so what do they do? Do they use his other patellar tendon? Do they use a hamstring graft? That would have a lot to do with his recovery time. And then there's the issue of whether there's any cartilage damage in the knee as a result of this injury. When you're talking about the life span of his knee, that's going to be one of the big elements -- not just the ligament, but how healthy is the joint itself?
The first thing is, what's the extent of the damage inside his knee, and then are there other aspects of the joint or capsule that need to be addressed. With an LCL injury, you worry about that back corner of the knee, what we call the posterolateral corner, which is where the LCL is. When you suffer an injury to anything in that complex, it can threaten the overall stability of the knee. Your biggest concern is, is that corner intact? Is it stable? Because if it's not, there's more you have to deal with. RG III being the athlete that he is, that works in his favor. He's young, he's fit, he's highly motivated, and those are all positives. The part we don't know is the anatomy part, which is the part he has no control over. |
Dan Hennie is reporting that the injury is an 8-12 month recovery time but I wonder if that's if a player already had a torn acl before ... _________________ RIP SSF mike23md

@realfreemancbs: Team official says torn LCL for RG3. This was first reported by ESPN. Source close to RG3 says doctors expect "same RG3 next season."
Sounds like he is having surgery to the LCL, and they are going to examine the ACL during surgery. Hopefully it is just scar tissue built up from his old ACL injury. We might luck out on this one, and have a healthy RG3 next year!!! |

Definitely has been a strange/unfortunate situation with all the contradicting reports that have gone on the past month. Definitely would like to see Andrews, and Shanny communicate better in a situation like this considering RG3 is the teams franchise player. I'm just hoping the ACL just has scar tissue built up, and doesn't need surgery. I'm not too worried about the LCL being that it doesn't take long to recover from. |
