Bright side of a trainwreck, I know, but the #Vikings' nose tackles were fabulous last night. Letroy Guion's best day. Fred Evans dominant.

Evans had six "holy crap"-type plays. If I'm #Vikings, I consider starting him next yr, drafting another nose, moving Guion back to 3-tech.

I've been saying for a few weeks now that Evans should be the starter.

An interior line that looks something like this next year would be improved IMO.

UT - Kevin Williams - Letroy Guion
NT - Fred Evans - Free Agent (Terrence Knighton or Isaac Sopoaga) or draft pick (Jesse Wililams, John Jenkins, or Brandon Williams)

Tweener - Christian Ballard

Evans really came on strong at the end of the year, but a 4 game sample of splash plays isnt enough to all of a sudden think the DT position is set. KWill is slowing down big time, Guion was a bit of a disappointment and Ballard is still kind of unknown.

I myself would address the DT spot by drafting a guy like Jenkins, Short, or Spence etc, and moving Kevin towards becoming a 1 or 2 down guy. He just hasnt given any sort of pass rush and if we had somebody who could just push the pocket a little bit, our DEs would either rack up even more sacks then they already did, or our DT could be a 6-8 sack guy.

At this point, I think 1 3 down DT is needed because we can get by with a handful of others who are more "specialists" for the other downs. Williams and Evans would provide great rotational run stuffing ability, and Griffen also needs to be on the field as much as possible (which comes inside alot)

You just provided reasons why we DON'T need a three-down guy though. If you're drafting someone to be an every down guy, and you have three other guys who need time, you are relegating them to play 33% of the snaps each. That's not gonna fly.

Why wouldnt it?Assuming we can bring down Kevin's salary, none of our DTs would be making so much money that they are forced to play heavy snaps. and honestly if you draft a DT, in all likelihood he woudnt become a legit 3 down guy during his rookie year. But if we can go into the season essentially with a DT rotation of Kwill-Rookie-Evans-Ballard and have Griffen play in pass rushing situations we could be really good.

Don't get me wrong, Evans played really well down the stretch of the year and should be in line for more playing time. But he's looked good in the past as well. I think at this point, he is a solid 3rd DT who can provide good run stuffing.

Just for arguments sake I'm gonna assume we take Kawann Short. Playing time breakdown could be something like this:

NT: Williams-60% Evans-25% Short-15%
UT: Short -60% Griffen-25% Ballard-15%

DE: Allen-90% Griffen-10%
DE: Robison-75% Griffen-25%

@TomPelissero: Kevin Williams says he'd like to play two or three more years. Expects to be back if #Vikings will have him.

Fred Evans was always that back up that many mocks always cut him and the Vikings I think always considered it, but always makes it back and seems to do well. At least that's my memory of him lol.

I just find it a little depressing that a good year for Fred Evans resembles a bad year for Pat Williams. Our expectations for the NT position has really declined.

Not true at all.

Fred Evans this year, in his limited time, was loads better than Pat Williams his last year here (his worst year).

Fred Evans is an interesting player. He has hung around since 2007 and seems to finally be putting things together. DTs tend to be late bloomers so maybe we have something.

Fred Evans has been very good and you can tell he has worked to get where he is. He should get a start next year he deserves it!!
