Why? The kick Cundiff missed last season wouldn't have won Baltimore the game, it only would have tied it. Why does no one remember this?

well we have to do something. Akers has missed 2 potiential game winning fgs this season. It seems like he has lost all confidence

The last thing a team wants to worry about heading into the playoffs is whether they can trust their kicker. I hope we don't see another special teams meltdown.

If Cundiff ever gets onto the field for the 49ers, this will have been a terrible move.
He will miss kicks, and the likelihood is that he'll miss a kick that costs the 49ers a playoff game.
But if he's just used as a threat and that gets Akers kicking properly again, then no harm, no foul.
