| Quote: | Coach Leslie Frazier was asked today about Harvin's situation. Here's the exchange with reporters:
Q: Is it by design that Percy is not around or would you prefer that he's here?
A: "It's purely up to him. If he wanted to be around, he could be around. |

That's all that needs to be said about the situation. _________________

ouch.
but then...
Q: Is it odd that a player as high profile as Percy not being here?
A: "No. I know he's supportive of his teammates. As any of the guys who are on IR that don't travel with us or don't participate in what we're doing, it's nothing that upsets their teammates or gets them concerned. These guys are so focused on Green Bay and getting ready for that game. That's what's most important."
Q: Is it routine for a guy on IR when he's not going to come back to rehab on his own?
A: "Not on his own. We monitor his rehab."
Q: So [head athletic trainer Eric] Sugarman is in contact with Percy?
A: "Yes." _________________

Although Peterson acknowledges that sometimes injured players need to be with teammates, neither he nor Frazier sounded overly concerned with Harvin's absence.
Peterson: "I think it's important to be around your teammates at times, but when you've got the mind-set that you want to come back, and this is what you want to accomplish [with rehab], you can get it done wherever you're at."

Jamarca Sanford: “Percy and me are always texting. I’m making sure he’s still good, keeping his head up and reminding him to be ready to come back strong next year. He loves the success we’re having. He tells me he’s really proud of us. I know it was hard for him [to go on I.R.] He wants to be with this team, helping this team win. But unluckily he got hurt. That’s part of the game. So all he can do is sit back and watch. He just has to be ready to recover from that injury and be ready for next year.”

i've been a longtime proponent of believing quotes from people close to situations and not inserting our own biases in to them. so given Frazier's quote that he's not concerned about Percy, and Sanford's quote that he cheers on the team, i'll retract my criticism of Harvin's absence.
i'd prefer him to be with the team, but if the team doesn't really care, then i shouldn't either.
c'mon Percy, get your head together, rest up, and come back even better! _________________

A couple outside threats (maybe a healthy Simpson being one of them)with Harvin in the slot next year should make for some exciting football. I hope we see even more of Rudolph too. _________________

No one seems to know what to say. They're not exactly sure what Harvin's been up to since he bolted town almost immediately after being placed on injured reserve on Dec. 5. And they are not certain what Harvin's future holds. But wasting time trying to solve that puzzle now seems misguided.
Around the locker room, teammates notice reminders of Harvin's mysterious absence, such as the unopened packages stacking up inside his locker stall. But many players shrug it off. They have never felt Harvin was a significant distraction or divisive force to this team. Just a complex personality whose moodiness is part of the deal.
So even as those within the organization privately express confusion at the receiver's disappearance and unwillingness to return text messages and even as those higher up the power structure convey that they wish Harvin was around, no one is consumed by the subplot.

| Is there any scenario where we could trade Percy to Pittsburgh for Mike Wallace if they were to Franchise him? |

Player for player trades don't happen very much in the NFL. If we move Harvin it will likely be for picks.
It's not outside the realm of possibility though. _________________

One can only speculate, but anything less than $7M per year over 5 years is probably unreasonable to think. |

I think DeSean Jackson's 5 year, $47M deal is good benchmark. _________________

that is pushing the limit of too much for me. At that cost, id rather shop him and get some picks and let Wright take over. I just dont see an incentive in paying Harvin almost 10 million per year just to basically be a one trick pony on offense and a special teams beast.
Jarius Wright can play and the difference in cost between the two would be significant. |
