Manning as a Texan would have been a disaster. Kubiak doesn't even let Schaub audible. Manning is basically an offensive coordnator. They wouldn't have got along

That is a silly argument. I think that Kubiak and Schaub would have found a way to co-exist.

Given that we had to cut Eric Winston to retain the likes of Chris Myers and extend Duane Brown and Arian Foster, I don't think we had anything CLOSE to what would be needed to go after Manning. Sure, a move like this meant you cut Matt Schaub...but it isn't as if that was something that would free up enough cap space for Manning, who commands close to $16MM a season, IIRC.
Getting Manning means more than cutting Schaub. It means letting Myers sign elsewhere, expecting to lose Duane Brown after 2013, losing Glover Quin, Brice McCain...who knows what the team would have to cut to give Manning the money he expected.

Sadly this is the truth, I was loud and proud in the chants for Manning and Wayne, but once the cap issue was brought to light EVEN I backed off, knowing the money he commands is not worth the loss of others.
