The Rooney Rule is a Joke!

Why does this rule even exist if football teams rarely take it seriously. Yes, I'm looking at you, Cardinals. They interviewed Horton? Really? I bet the interview went something like this.

Bidwell and Horton are walking down the hallway in opposite directions.

Bidwell: Morning, Ray.
Horton: How you doing, Mr. Bidwell?
Bidwell: Good. You know, you'll probably make a fine head coach someday.
Horton: (silence)
Bidwell: Good talk, Ray.

As he walks away...

Bidwell: Black guy interviewed...check. I hope Reid's number is right on my speed dial.

Now I don't know what kind of coach Horton is but I hope they give him a nice raise for being the token interview when he had to know they were never serious about hiring him.

I wonder...since Cleveland is gung-ho on Chip Kelly, who their token black interview will be?

Just do away with the rule, already. Owners hire who they want, regardless of color. Only once in a blue moon does a Tomlin or Frazier make it through.

This thread isn't going to last long but I agree. If you're not a HC candidate, you're not a HC candidate. Making teams interview people of different races just so they have to do it, is pretty ridiculous. Especially when 95% of the time, they have no intention of even giving the candidate a fair shot.

He's right though. You have guys with no chance at getting the job being interviewed to satisfy this rule. It's insulting.

I do agree with this .

I believe it made more sense back in the day when people were being overlooked for this reason.

Now a days , i don't see it being a problem in the league .

I would Def be insulted and would be a waste of my time.
