Posted: Mon Dec 31, 2012 8:11 pm Post subject: THE GREG ROMAN EMPIRE: My HC Prediction |
|
|
|
Head Coach: Greg Roman
GM: David Caldwell
OC: Roman or someone yet to be named
DC: - Jauron is retained, the 4-3 lives!
DRAFT Rounds 1-7: BPA
Without getting hung up on the round, somewhere I see the Browns taking Collin Klein - QB Kansas St.
*Note* [I am a Weeden supporter, but I see a very close similarity between Klein's game and Kapernick's game... And Kapernick is flourishing the Greg Roman's offensive system in San Francisco. So this is a system prediction, not a QB debate...]
My thinking...
First of all let me say that Haslam is doing a great job installing a hands-on business hierarchy with the Browns in hiring Banner (CEO), Scheiner (president) and Stehlik (Chief revenue officer). The next head coach is going to be part of collaboration, with many hands on decision makers sitting around the table. There will be no HC running the show alone like Mangini did with CLE and what IMO, is Gruden's & Cowher's MO. I think Banner will give the new HC some slack to make his own decisions, yet keep his leash short enough with the collaboration that he wont lead them down the wrong road.
JH3 & Banner want a leader and someone with experience yet also someone this regime can grow and mold into their own 'Andy Reid/Bill Belichick etc'. Greg Roman has Ohio ties from his days at John Carroll University. He has worked under a bright young coach in Jim Harbaugh, while on the payroll of the DeBartolo Group (from Youngstown, OH).
Roman, who turns 40 in January, has been in the NFL since 1995. His resume consists of experience with Carolina, Houston, Baltimore and San Francisco. Roman was the assistant head coach at Stanford, working with Andrew Luck amongst other bright football players. Roman has been the OC for the 49ers for the past two years. He, along with Harbaugh, helped turn around Alex Smith's career and have grown their offense to work around a talented RB in Frank Gore and a young athletic QB like Colin Kaepernick. They play tough hard-nosed defense in San Francisco, a philosophy I am sure will be expected here in Cleveland (which is pretty much what we are building).
I can see him bringing the San Francisco offense to Cleveland installing it with Weeden at first, but grooming Klein for the future. We have a similar offensive line, young and versatile. Little and Gordon can fit the model of Crabtree and Manninham, if they match their level of production is yet to be seen. We have a dynamic running back in Richardson, that plays much like Frank Gore. We however, do not have a stud TE like Vernon Davis…
As for the GM, I can see Dave Caldwell coming to Cleveland because of his ties with Greg Roman and John Carroll. In 2012, Caldwell was the right hand man of Thomas Dimitrioff, but was a scout of over 10 years with Indy and helped bring in Peyton Manning.
This franchise has the core in place to win now. With higher expectations and fresh faces being installed for the long haul, the Browns are finally on the right track and the 14 year reboot has finally been completed.
Thoughts?????

Yes they do suck. My kids go to Buckeye and I was raised in Wooster an attended WHS. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!

You lost me at Colin Klein in round one but Roman would be good choice IMO. _________________

Big no to Klein in the 1st. I think he'll go a lot later than that. IF we hire Kelly I'd think about Klein in the 3rd. MAYBE. And I like Klein _________________

I am the creator of the Weeden is the Real Deal thread haha.
I obviously like Weeden and dont necessarily want Kline... However I see a close similarity between him and Kapernick style of QB play and the offense San Fran runs with Greg Roman... _________________

I would still very much favor this HC/GM duo.
However, the only way I'd favor Klein is as a 7th round TE. He makes Tim Tebow look like John Elway. |

I think you underestimate just how bad Tim Tebow is as a passer. _________________

Not underestimating; I know he's awful. But Klein throws the ball like a combination of a dart and a shot put, with a windup longer than a discus throw. |
