Maybe bring in a vet for depth or draft a wr in the late rounds. This might be the year where we package some picks to move up to grab someone. I still think depth at LB and DL is needed. Maybe we can grab a guy like Mendenhall if he becomes a FA. I love Gore but he will be 30 next season and that is usually the time rbs start to go down hill... ..... |
I was kind of thinking this maybe the year to trade out of the first round and acquire a first and 3rd for next year so we have the option of taking multiple high round players next year or keep trading next year. Since we have no glaring holes (right now anyways), this may be a good year to stock pile picks for future drafts when we may need to bring in a lot of top talent. |
I agree also. I don't mind giving up a second for a 2014 first . plus I am not a fan of this year's draft class so why not make some moves for next year... _________________

NINERNATION21 i like your last two post in this topic. I dont see a need to sign a high price wr with jenkins and williams being back/better next season. I really like williams game.
Also I think this year may be the year where we stock pile picks to make a big splash in the following draft. _________________

If we want a guy to take the top off of opposing defenses, this guy can do it. I really like what I see from him whenever I watch the Saints play. He would be a really good #3 behind Crabs and Manningham, and I don't think he will be getting big money offers on the open market. |
Isn't this the reason we drafted Jenkins? If we signed a veteran WR where on the depth chart would he go?
Crabtree would be #1
Manningham looks to be our second started next year
Kyle Williams is looking like a fantastic and sure handed slot guy
Jenkins would be #4 and is essentially in this role now
I see no need to throw money at a veteran WR when we have Williams deserving a much needed bump in PT and with the expectations placed on Jenkins. The only way I'd throw money at a vet WR would be a solid backup/returner/wise vet past his prime type player.
I would be in favor of drafting a mid to late round WR this year. A nice project with possible huge upside would work well. | I disagree entirely. Our team is already very young at WR, no need to draft one after spending our first there last season. A low cost, proven, veteran WR is a must for this team in the off-season. It could be Moss again, but we can't go into the season with only those 4 guys. One or two go down with injuries (like we are experiencing right now) and we are stuck calling Bret Swain or some other scrub to come play football for us again. With Ginn most likely gone, and with Moss an unknown going forward and not under contract, we need at least one more guy. Unless we think there is a gem on our PS signing a depth WR is going to be important.
As far as I am concerned, the "depth-chart" argument doesn't mean a thing for this team. It might dictate playing time, but we tend to rotate different players in depending on the package, not necessarily by who is next up on the depth chart. Moss is our 3rd WR (when manningham is healthy) but is the only WR on the field for some plays. Fresh legs at skill positions wear down opposing players as the game goes on, and with Kaep behind center the deep passing game is going to be a much bigger part of the offense. That is why I personally like the idea of Henderson. On the other hand a big target like Ramses Barden would be intriguing as well. _________________

We might not be seeing eye to eye on how much money it would take to make a signing like that. With how modest Manninghams contract is, I wouldn't think the money aspect would come in to play on a potential WR signing. I was not suggesting going after a top 5 FA WR, merely another depth guy. _________________

Devery Henderson has some very questionable hands.
And we're pretty young out wide. But crabs contracts and hams are up soon. That doesn't leave us with much _________________ ***WE RUN THE WEST!***

We stashed him there...
Honestly, his last preseason game, Josh looked good, if I recall correctly. I wouldn't mind bringing him back at all. _________________

Percy Harvin is going to be traded.. It would probably take our 1st, but he is one of if not the best playmakers in the league. I guess if they were interested in Alex something could be worked out. _________________
