Ok, the last one was pretty well talked out, but we still have three games, and maybe even a playoff game to go if AD can get us there.
I left off on the last Ponder thread defending the merits of Tebow over Ponder. Some of you said you didn't think Tebow could throw a better deep ball than Ponder. Here is a video from Tebow's rookie year, and this probably would have been one of his first NFL starts. If Ponder had a game like this along with AD running the rock, I think we would have more wins this year. I'd absolutely love to see Ponder attempting these throws.
If you add Tebow's effectiveness in the run game and it seems pretty clear to me.

The fact that some are discussing the merits of a Tebow-led Vikings offense in comparison to Ponder is all that I need to know about Ponder. Quite possibly the only semi-relevant QB in the league that actually has worse mechanical and footwork issues than Ponder. _________________

The difference is that Tebow still gets the job done. Joe Kapp didn't have the best mechanics either, but he still led a pretty good team. I think Tebow could have similar success, even though this is a different era. _________________

Perhaps, hard to say; I have my doubts though. Nothing he's ever done in this screams long term answer at QB. Not to mention bringing Tebow in means the Vikings just used a #4 overall on a strong side pass blocker... _________________

If I remember correctly, Tarkenton and Grandpa also didn't have text-book mechanics, but completed an aweful lot of passes in their careers. I'd like to see Tebow given a shot if he is cut loose this offseason. Bring in a QB specialist to coach him a bit, and see how it all turns out. I just don't see the need to take a "cookie-cutter" approach to the QB position. What I mean by this is, who cares if someone is "prototypical" in any aspect of ther play, just so long as they can win us games? _________________ "No one can disguise mediocrity better than Bill Belichick." |

This X100 I don't know why people get caught up in mechanics and other things. Just win the game. _________________ All in for the underdog vikings making a push this season. |

nothing "positive" will come out of this thread.
Honestly, he's too hard to judge as of right now. I'd like to see him make plays for this team in these next 3 games, and continue to improve in the offseason. _________________

Mechanics and footwork are sort of a big deal when you have QBs like Ponder and Tebow who are already limited in their arm talent.
If you've got an arm like Favre did, Cutler, and even Stafford to some extent you can over look certain aspects and they can get away with being lax in their fundamentals. _________________

Not to side track the thread, but Uncle Buck that wasn't the best video to select if you wanted to showcase Tebow. There wasn't a single "wow" throw in that video.
| Code: | Tim Tebow vs. Raiders
3rd and 5 – Route = 5 yard out
- Tebow throws the ball a yard short and outside
3rd and 9 – Fly route
- Not Tebow’s fault, pressure in his face and he threw it away
2nd and 11 – Corner route
- Underthrown ugly ball, and his receiver makes an incredible catch, touchdown (33 yards)
3rd and 6 – downfield pass ~32 yards
- He jumps when he delivers the ball showing terrible footwork and tried to force the ball into a receiver
1st and 10 – back should throw
- First decent throw of the video and yet he still jumps when he throws the ball, his arm strength is as bad as Ponder’s.
1st and 10 – wheel route
- Stared down his primary receiver and floated the ball, it’s intercepted if there is a good corner
2nd and 11 – flag route
- Good throw, still not a lot of zip
2nd and 12 – play action
- Announcers say it’s a good throw, but he made the wrong throw. Running back has a step on the defender and 7 yards of end zone to work with. Put it at the back of the end zone. Running back still should have made the play
3rd and 12 – QB draw
2nd and 9 - Deep Cross
- Second good throw of the video, to a wide open receiver
2nd and 8 – throw to end zone
- All day to throw, stared down one receiver and threw it out of bounds.
1st and 10 – out route
- Put the throw where it needed to be |
I felt that I was watching a left handed Christian Ponder with how often the ball was thrown with no zip. _________________

| Id rather this thread be more about Ponder and less about Tebow. We have another thread to discuss potential QB options. |

other than it does keep Ponderific discussions from dominating every other thread too. _________________

I just dont understand how someone could think Tebow is a better passer than Ponder. That is Tebows main issue....HE CANT THROW...he's an athlete...thats it _________________

You guys need to get a pure pocket passer. Scramblers arent all that. Landry Jones is a guy I like a lot.
If I were you guys, I try t snag him and sit him a year behind someone a bit older. _________________
