I know that we have a prospect thread.
I know that we have a draft thread.
HOWEVER.
These are two of the top three targets for us at QB (going off personal opinion and general observation of the Jaguars fans here - also note this does not mean both are necessarily first round targets) and as we know, QB is very important and Henne has shown he cannot be trusted long-term and Gabbert's fate is still up in the air (though I'm sure many would argue he is done here).
The big thing though - the reason I have not included Tyler Wilson, or anyone else for that matter - is that this thread is primarily dedicated to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.
Though normally just another bowl game... this year, it is West Virginia vs Syracuse. Geno Smith vs Ryan Nassib.
December 29th at 3:15 EST. In preparation, I would like to gather formal thoughts on how we, as a subforum, view these two prospects and I would like to have discussion on them here during the game.
I couldn't find gifs of Nassib, so here:
RYAN NASSIB IS ALL IN

I was very impressed with Geno when I put in his film, but I haven't watched him since his slide.
I haven't watched much from Nassib. I'm going to catch up on Geno and watch Nassib's games now that the college semester is up.
I'm hoping one of the QB prospects ends up in our lap and ends up being an elite star.
And just a friendly reminder: Topics like these are not only okay, they're encouraged. If you have a specific player that you think we should target or want to discuss, or want to compare two important players, don't hesitate to make a thread about them with some great information to pass on to the rest of us. Not every player deserves a thread (We don't need threads on Punters except a Bryan Anger appreciation thread!), but anyone you think deserves more discussion than just general talk, go for it! _________________

1. Geno Smith
2. David Fales
3. Tyler Wilson
Those are the top 3 QBs in this draft, all worthy of the number one pick imo depending on who your guy is. I really think we go with one of them at 2 or whatever pick we have.
Sure you could get Glennon, Nassib, etc. or someone who falls, but that doesn't mean he is your guy. If you think any of these QBs can be your guy, take him with your first round pick. That's my philosophy. _________________

It's all about value, in a straight up who do I like more it's Geno. But if we can trade back get an extra 2nd rounder and get Nassib in the middle 2nd - early 3rd. Then that is far and away the better option.
Frankly, this team is almost completely devoid of talent and an extra top 60 player is just too much too pass up for a QB who is very talented but not a slam dunk Luck-type prospect.
I think there's alot too like about Nassib His throwing motion , arm strength and accuracy in the short and intermediate game are pretty impressive. Although his long ball needs work he underthrows alot of his receivers on deep routes forcing them too come back 3-5 yards too the ball. I don't know why he does this but the velocity he puts on shorter throws leads me too believe it's not his arm strength, which means it can be coached.
Scheme is also an issue I'd much rather my new QB too be coming out of Syracuce, rather than that wonky thing in WV. _________________ ...What? |

Nassib has some Stafford in him where he will throw from his back foot and weird angles when it comes.to his deep ball...leads to his poor accuracy, etc. _________________

Can't remember the thread, but someone said that he got in the habit of drifting his deep balls because his WRs used to be slow so that'd be the only way he could have a chance of getting it downfield to them. I don't know how accurate that explanation is, but I do believe he has the ability to make all the throws. _________________

I can't remember his name but if you venture outside of the jag's forum you probably know who I'm talking about. I dont know if I buy that excuse though, smell's like a load of bs from a Syracuse fan. Kind of like the "All He Does Is WIN!!" Tebow fans. _________________ ...What? |

Yeah that's why I'm not sure how valid the explanation is, but even if it's not, the same thing was said about Andrew Luck. Luck still needs to clean it up quite a bit and he was clearly a better prospect, but it shows that it's not an end-all. _________________

Love both. If we can't get Geno in the top 3 then I would want Ryan Nassib at the top of round 2. _________________

I kinda wish we could make Geno and Nassib switch teams for this game. It would be interesting to see Geno Smith in a more Pro Style offense without his lil Tavon Austin and the rest. Would also be interesting to see what kind of things Nassib could put together with that wide open system and all kinds of weapons, easy throws, etc.
But in terms of reality where we can't do that...
I think it will be really interesting to watch head to head, which guy is more able to rise to the occasion and really take their team on their back so to speak. The leadership aspect of it. All the various technical aspects aside, it's something i've never really been impressed with when it comes to Geno, where i think Nassib really has the edge. Watching them head to head in a big bowl game should be an interesting opportunity to compare that sort of thing. |

| I'm not impressed by either prospect if the Jags drafts one of these guys we will be drafting a QB in another 3-4 years |
